Called in here on our way back home. Have stopped in Clevedon many times and decided to give this a try. Keen to support local, independent businesses.

Priced at the upper end of cafe food, we were made to feel welcome on a Sunday lunchtime as we only wanted drinks and a cake. I will always check that this acceptable and we also had the dog which is allowed only outside.

I opted for the cream tea which was on the menu presented to us, however when we came to order we were told only available after 3.30. Which is fine, however should perhaps be stated. When we came to pay I thought the bill seemed a little on the heavy side, so opted for a receipt. I then noticed a service charge had been added.

I did ask about this, and was shown the statement 10% optional service charge with the Sunday lunch menu .

I could have had it refunded however felt that the option to add should have been advised not assumed.

I am happy to support local community business however feel in this instance information should be be explicit and communicated more clearly as I am sure at over £16 for 2 coffees and cake this...

This was a lovely place to be, but unfortunately the way the room was set up meant it was impossible to hear anyone other than my immediate neighbour, which was a shame as we'd booked it for a group! It was the summer holidays though, and perhaps during normal times it wouldn't be as busy - we reserved the table and all the tables around us were reserved as well, so it's very popular! Good selection and variety of vegetarian dishes although not vegan sadly. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating (they managed to communicate to the kitchen that we ordered a plain cheese sandwich without butter for a young relation and they didn't bat an eyelid!) Quiche of the day and leek fritters were the agreed favourites. They also had a varied drinks menu, including lots of soft drinks and herbal teas. Overall, a lovely café, but I wouldn't go back during the...

Small place, but so many people inside and outside. Watresses were really busy, running around like crazy, but still available to help on every request. Food was amazing, coffee was awesome, great quality. That's the positives.

Negatives:

as amazing as the breakfast was, waiting for over an hour for food was too much, anyone would get impatient. I appreciate it was super busy, but still.

I don't appreciate restaurants that add gratuity payments automatically to the final bill, this should be a customer's choice as a reckognition of service. The waitress was amazing and I wanted to give her a tip which was actually higher that the one they forced me to pay. If the service was inadequate but I would still have to pay 10% on top, just because, I'd be really aggravated. Wasn't the case, again, the service was really good, but...

I always get my coffee from Five The Beach ... and love to sit outside or walk acros to the little pebble beach opposite. The staff are always so friendly and the service is faultless. I had a super roast, a couple of Sundays ago ... top quality produce and the most amazing Sunday lunch. Cooked beautifully!!! Also, lunch with a friend, another time, and we both had the fish dish! Wow ... so fresh and scrummy!!!! We had to take a photo. I forget to give a review ... because I just take it for granted that they are there ... but you should never do that. A BIG thank you to Five the Beach and the Team as we are so lucky, in Clevedon, to have you on the front ... Thank you :-)

We came here for breakfast with two friends. The food was good and the place busy, which is always a good sign. Our Bagels with smoked salmon were good and so was the vegetarian breakfast, eggs and coffee. The only problems were a piece of burnt toast, and the door wide open causing us to be in the middle of quite a draught. Not too good for the elderly amongst us, apart from that friendly staff and good ambience. Good value. We then came for lunch and as a consequence upgraded '5 The Beach' to a five star. Two more friends had baguettes and we had salmon fishcakes and Duck Confit. All meals were excellent!
