Staying ''nearby'' we'd arranged well in advance an evening meal here. We arrived about 30 mins early and were graciously seated.
This is our first ever dining experience like this. You see stuff on the TV all the time, but in no way does the ambience and experience get captured at all.
We were shown to our table and to my great joy it was opposite to the kitchen door and I could clearly see the pass 😁
Our waitress Linda was soon with us and left our menu's and took our drinks requests, water for me and their' pina-colada for my wife, it was explained that it was not a ''normal one'' that said when it swiftly came, it was like a short with a mixer, and absolutley delicious!
On placing our food order, Linda was so so helpful in assisting my wife with her decision over the Idonesean curry, I stepped out of my comfort zone going for the charred sea bass.
Sitting where we were, whilst we waited, it was great for me to see the guys on the pass, and the steaming delicious food coming out the kitchen and past us. Wife had the pleasure of seeing a myriad of cocktails leaving the bar.
Our food arrived quickly, suprisingly as there were many patrons in and a large birthday party of at least 15 in at the time.
My sea bass was amazing, can not fault it nor compare it to anything I have had before, or probably will again 😁 so nice, want it again. Wife had also taken a chance on her choice too, needless to say... It was delicious too, rich fresh and moreish. Linda came by, as did, I pressume Head waiter to ask if all was well, which of course it was 😀
Mains gone, places cleared, dessert time. Now I dont normally go for a dessert but the Choux chocolat creme had me, Wife went for the panacotta. Again 2 glorious dishes that will never be bettered.
Expensive ? Yes
Worth it ? Yes, every penny
I've been to so called ''Top'' eateries many times but none have ever given us the great service that Linda and the rest of the FOH team did, nor the food quality from the kitchen brigade. We actually felt wellcome and left feeling quite emotional by the level of service we had recieved, theres so many places I could name n shame but won't.
Thank you so so much to the team both front, back and kitchen brigade for giving us such an amazing meal and experience, I just wish we lived so much closer we could come more...
Read moreFirst thing to say is that it was well worth the wait! My other half made a reservation 3 months in advance of our stay in Padstow this year as, on previous attempts to book, we've only been offered mid-afternoon or late night slots so it was good to finally go for Saturday lunch at 1pm in the height of tourist season. The actual restaurant is surprisingly large with a huge central bar around which the tables are arranged. We were initially walked right round it to the back where a small corner table offered one of us a great view but left the other staring at a wall - we pointed this out before being seated and the (extremely-friendly) waiter whisked us to a gorgeous bay-window table with fresh flowers between us and the glass. So, now happy with venue, table and staff, we tackled the menu. It's an interesting menu - not overly long but plenty of variety including a steak 'n' chips options for those who don't like fish (though why come?!) and a 'posh fish & chips' for the less adventurous (a lovely older lady sat with her family near us had this and she was absolutely delighted with it!). I am not normally one for choosing a) cream based dishes or b) seafood dishes but I left all doubt at the door and plonked for the steamed rolls of Dover sole with summer vegetables in white wine (cream) sauce and it was STUNNING! The other side of the table chose the mussels which were very good too. For our mains I had the fish curry and, my-oh-my, it was good! The ooh's & aah's went to my partner who chose the whole crab in spicy Asian sauce with noodles - blimey; it was the size of a lobster (and equally hard work) but, we decided, worth the effort. Desserts were sublime too and, after finishing our wine, we realised we'd been eating for two hours! Emerging into the hot and busy road by Padstow Harbour, we felt happy and full up and promised ourselves that we'd make a reservation to go back next...
Read moreWent to the seafood resturant as a family of 5 for my dads 60th birthday and to say we left disappointed is a huge understatement. Although we can’t complain about the appetisers and the starters, which were all exceptional, the same can’t be said for the mains. Unfortunately, this was when it all went drastically down hill. After waiting an hour for our starters and then waiting another hour for our mains. The mains began to arrive, I had ordered a medium rare steak, which was one of the more ‘basic’ mains on the menu, to my surprise it arrived far from what I ordered. Seared but not cooked, in-front of me was a raw bit of fatty steak which i wasn’t expecting from such a well established highly spoken about resturant. This had completely put me off eating anything further, even though the waiter said he would redo the steak it had gone past that after all the waiting and disappointment, and for the rest of the family they had also waited so long for their mains to arrive they had gone past wanting to eat and enjoying the meal full stop. Not forgetting to mention, the show the waiter gave of deboning the whole Dover sole which wasn’t deboned at all. The atmosphere seemed like it was lacking something to engage the guests and to keep the anticipation going of what we had hoped for, which was supposed to be exquisite food. The waiter we experienced tried to blame us for the undercooked steak and tried to go back and forth with one of my family members who happens to be a chef. After this entire experience the manager was great and was completely understanding and apologetic and offered to take off the mains off the bill, which was greatly appreciated and a pure sign of the disappointment the manager felt with us. Although, if Rick Stein was to witness our encounter he would be mortified to see such things happening...
