Unfortunately attended this restaurant tonight for Mother’s Day and the service/food was shocking. Flat Prosecco, this was replaced when mentioned. Ham Hock starter without the Ham Hock, ham was added when mentioned. After starters we were waiting 1 hour 45 minutes for the mains. Had to chase 3 times in this time before someone actually bought the food out. Once the food was bought out 3 of the mains didn’t include any of the sides advertised on the menu. When bought up the the manager he agreed all 3 were missing sides and said he’d bring the extra out. When the sides were bought out it was still different from the menu. Kids meal was wrong and also had to be changed. The other child’s meal didn’t even come out. 1 of the other adult mains had a hair in the salmon. Once we’d spoken to the manager he was extremely unhelpful, told us that it had only been 30 minutes when our booking was at 4.30 and we still didn’t eat any mains by 6.20. He didn’t try to rectify or give an explanation for any of the issues we raised. So we decided to leave at this point before eating any dinners as the 2 young children we had with us were extremely hungry and at 6.20 nearly 2 hours after our booking they still had no dinners. This is on top of the disasters of the adult mains that only came out at 6.15. Not once did the staff or manager offer any apologies. They were just rude and dismissive.
Very disappointed as this truly ruined our Mother’s Day dinner. And for the prices of this restaurant I truly cannot believe the absolutely shocking service. Save your money, much better places to eat...
Read moreA Dismal Anniversary Meal at The Shinfield Arms The Shinfield Arms, a pub we've proudly recommended to every visitor to our village, delivered an incredibly poor experience on what was supposed to be a special occasion – our wedding anniversary. The service was painfully slow from start to finish. We waited almost 30 minutes for our drinks order, and even then, we had to remind the staff. This set the tone for the entire evening. The food took an absolute age to arrive, leaving us wondering if they'd forgotten about us entirely. When the food did finally appear, it was a letdown. The nachos starter was incredibly average, lacking any real flavour or excitement. My child's meal was not only basic but also a tiny portion, which is just unacceptable for the price. But the real shocker was my main course: the chicken Caesar salad. I can honestly say it was the worst Caesar salad I have ever had in my life. Supermarket pre-packed versions are infinitely better, and yet this abysmal plate of food cost a staggering £17!Genuinely m&s bag of Caesar salad for 4 quid was more fresh and tastier than a £17 plate of pale lettuce, leftover chicken and some bottled sauce. Overall, we left The Shinfield Arms feeling utterly ripped off and incredibly disappointed. This used to be a fantastic local gem, but based on our experience tonight, we won't be recommending it to anyone again. What happened to the place we loved? I understand that there was a fire. Kitchen is being redone- then please don't serve atrocious food at such high prices and make us hate this place that we...
Read moreWent out for Christmas meal with the family. It was fairly busy so our table had been pushed to the bar area. After doing our initial orders we were waiting for 25 mins before we decided to go and ask about the drinks. We were charged them but no one had decided to make them. From that it went down hill. Not necicerly in the service but in the environment that we had been forced to sit in. There were a load of noisy scaffolders in the bar area talking dirty chat and swearing allot. At one point the man behind the bar did tell them to stop as it was a family bar. However this lasting all of 2 mins before it all started up again. At no point did any of the staff come over and apologise about the noise or offer us to go in the the actual restraunt area where we were expected to be in the first place. Our table had been made up of 3 small tables with not much space for the food to go and we were not facing each other whilst eating. On the whole I think it would be a nice meal out but not around any festive period. The price of the meals was not worth the experience we had. We were offered a free cup of coffee for the noise which was a nice jesture however I think the bar staff and manager could have done more to make the experience better so hence the 3 stars (was going...
