EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, WOULD NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. This is not a dog friendly pub. Was looking forward to our end of week Friday night booking to take the family, a baby and dog out for a family meal. The baby and dog was mentioned clearly in the booking. After struggling through the main door with the pram we were stopped in our tracks by a woman to say you can't bring the dog in here (a small well behaved cockapoo) the pub describes itself as dog friendly. Instead we were told to go back out and through another door in to the snug/vault. We struggled through, literally hitting everyone with the pram to get through the dingy smelly room and found a seat at the very back outside the men's toilets. This was our much looked forward to Friday night out meal. What a compete disaster and totally ruined by the Spread Eagle. Then to add insult to injury when a lady came to take our order we said we can't sit up against the toilet with a 1 year old baby crushed in the corner, so we decided to cancel and go. All she could say was "you won't find anywhere else that lets dogs in that serve food". They are very behind the times, try the Church Green, The Jolly Thresher, the Little Manor for starters and lots more more upmarket places. They even accused us of not mentioning the dog in the booking, we always, always take the dog and mention this in EVERY booking along with the baby and pram to get the appropriate space. What place accuses it's customers of lying. The Spread Eagle are rude, impolite and somewhere I would highly recommend NOT to go. We certainly will never be visiting them again.

We recently hired the function room upstairs for a baby shower and had the BEST time. From initial enquiry right through to the day itself, every single team member I spoke with was super friendly, helpful and honestly couldn't do enough for us. The space is fantastic and at such a brilliant price - we had the room all day and were allowed to arrive at 10am to set up, and we didn't leave until gone 5pm. I enquired with so many venues as part of my search and NONE of them compared to this in terms of location, price, space and hire times. We also added on afternoon tea which was absolutely delicious! At £13.99pp we were expecting something more basic which suited us fine, but wow, everything was so fresh and there was so much food every guest was able to take a doggy bag home with them! We all had the best day and I cannot thank the team enough for all their help. You're a brilliant bunch! I'll be recommending the pub (which serves equally as tasty food having eaten there a few months back when we came to view the function space) and venue to everyone and we will definitely be back! Thank you!

Track and trace was easy to sign up to, had lunch it was very nice, just wish the limited menu had a sandwich option (like a cheese and ham toastie or the like) as we didn't really plan on having a full meal. There were good social distancing measures in place, the staff were excellent in guiding us and looking after us. This was our first proper sit down meal out since lockdown, and we were made to feel comfortable, which for my family is very important in these times as we were very apprehensive about spending time indoors or in confined spaces, which is why we sat outside, really enjoyed ourselves. They offer eat out to help out too so four meals plus drinks cost just £28!

Myself and 2 friends booked off the festive menu weeks ago and were slightly skeptical as when trying to book online it wouldn’t load our choices. I then tried to email but none of the emails were replied to as Claire was a very busy lady and apparently the only person who can deal with them. I then tried calling on different days. I finally got through to be told she was on her own and to call back after 2pm. I called back and placed our food orders & preferences. I’m gluten intolerant but I was advised I would be catered for. I paid £30 for the deposit. We had a couple of drinks before we arrived. It’s Christmas after all. There was 0 Christmas spirit or cheer. Our seating had a massive tear in it. We should have left then but the guy who served us was pleasant so we thought ok. Well my starter of prawn cocktail was basic. It was originally prawn & avocado but I don’t eat avocados as they don’t agree with me so I had about 8 prawns swimming in a Marie Rose sauce with some lettuce. My friend had bread & butter but I didn’t. Where was the gluten free bread? That was my starter. The main of turkey came swimming in gravy? Where was the jug of gravy? Was it gluten free? Who knows? They didn’t state if it was so it wasn’t that obvious. My friend who also had the turkey had an absolutely massive Yorkshire pudding. I didn’t! It was just left off the plate. Claire came to ask if everything was ok so I mentioned the pudding. She said oh you make them I need the recipe???? I explained how to make them with cornflour. I found the recipe on the internet. The mashed potato wasn’t fresh. There was far too much gravy on the plate for me. I was paying for this? Well desert came. One of my friends dessert was the chocolate cheesecake & to be fair it looked decent and she said it was nice. My other friend had ordered Christmas pudding & custard. The slice was that thin it was transparent! As for me I’d ordered ice cream. It never arrived as they forgot it??!! So if you’re gluten intolerant you’re expected to pay full price but receive less! The food was bland and totally lacked any Christmas spirit. The presentation was lacking. It was a bad Sunday roast at best. Don’t offer a gluten intolerant menu when you definitely can’t deliver one! When we went to pay our £30 deposit hadn’t even been deducted off the total. Needless to say we won’t be going back and I won’t be recommending your menu to my gluten intolerant friends. It was literally you’ve had your food, pay and leave. Zero Christmas atmosphere or festive cheer. I’d give this a miss. I was bitterly disappointed as its very difficult to find places that cater...

We have been to the spread eagle numerous times, my girlfriend loves the place as its a quaint pub with character, excellent service and food is always amazing so we never had a complaint, however this time we were sat there for 40 mins without any one taking our order, which it states on the menu do not leave the table unless for the toilet as its table service, so my girlfriend ask the young lad if hes taking orders, his response was go to the bar and order your food, my girlfriend went the bar to order the food and was asked why are you ordering the food, so she explained, fair enough the management repremanded the young lad for not carrying out his duties correctly. The food arrived, my girlfriend order a sunday dinner which she absolutely enjoyed, however i ordered steak, the steak was cooked perfectly to how i like it, but it wasnt the best cut of beef. We normally go to the spread eagle because of the constistancy of excellent service and amazing food, but this has tarnished our experience slightly, hopefully its just a one off and the will continue to provide the sevice and food we...
