Pulled up in the car park, went to check in and after waiting approx 20mins for the woman at the reception desk to even acknowledge we were there as she was on the phone explaining to another customer that she couldn’t help them with a booking as she didn’t know what she was doing we finally managed to attempt to check in. After eventually finding our booking information in a draw somewhere she then couldn’t find our room key. At 4pm in the afternoon the room key was still in the key deposit box so clearly the room had not been cleaned or made up. She then decided she would change our room which she assured us it was clean and ready for us. Well the beds had been made and the bathroom was clean but the whole room was damp and smelled like wet dog. Judging from the poor reception we decided we would just grab some air freshener. We then made the mistake of eating at the hotel restaurant. Well there’s another storey. Non of the waiting staff greeted us, we went an sat at a table, still no sign of anyone wanting to talk to us I went to the bar to order drinks for us and enquired about the small menu on the table, turns out due to some reason beyond their control they are operating a limited menu, alarm bells should have rung but decided to go with sirloin steak for myself and the wife, our boy went for a gourmet burger (NO LETTUCE NO MAYO!!) ((you can guess what was in the burger when it arrived can’t you)). So now onto the steaks…. For a 28 day matured sirloin medium rare it was like eating the sole of an old boot, in fact a sole of an old boot would likely have more seasoning and highly likely less chewing involved. The mrs steak was literally fat. Not sure it consisted of any cut of meat, was over cooked and in seasoned. Well I thought to myself if you think I’m paying good money for this you have another thing coming. So I calmly walk upto the bar and request to settle my tab and have at least one of the steaks removed due to it being absolutely inedible. To which the miserable woman from reception shouted over her plate of slop that you can have a 20% discount. Now calm down fair lady I already have a 20% discount so I shall use that and still not pay for that disgusting steak. After two young girls attempted to remove the “meal” from our bill the receptionist decided to get up from her “food” and come an assist. Now having the added attitude of little miss miserable really made me feel like a welcomed guest. Just like to point out that I shall be lodging a complaint with Greene King Inns and shall not be using them in the future. Premier inn how I miss you. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Also added to the the door to the car park from our room was shattered and the handle missing a screw making unlocking the door a...
Read moreFirstly phone signal and internet are shocking so if this is a must then look elsewhere |Rooms use a key and not a card which doesn’t bother us but some people in reviews have shown a dislike to this |Rooms are clean and adequate |We spent the evening in the bar area which was very nice ,it wasn’t overly busy but only having two staff on duty running the restaurant and bar meant they were severely overworked ,still tho raised a smile and made time to chat which was a credit to the two of them. We knew this would mean a delay to getting food but this didn’t bother us and we enjoyed a relaxed evening .|The morning we were greeted bluntly by whom I assume is the person running the breakfast are ,initially expecting us to pay for breakfast and after a couple of minutes agreed ours was free as we had booked to stay . There then followed a to and fro for ten mins as because we were a family of two adults and two kids albeit they are 15 and 16 they wanted to give them junior meals ,this made no sense as junior meals are served for children aged up to 12 plus because we were a four we had to book two rooms to stay and paid extra to have two family three person rooms ,I highlighted this and explained we had paid extra for these rooms and as there was four of us they were getting two breakfasts less to serve up as we could of had six people ,this continued until I asked to speak to the manager which the lady would not get and said they would speak to them for us then five mi utes later it was agreed as a one off we could have the adult breakfasts ,such a stupid argument which I’ve never had to deal with anywhere we have stayed just for a couple of sausages and bits of bacon. I explained that the boys could both have u limited access to the pastries and could if they wanted to eat thirty each which would cost far more than one sausage and one bit of bacon .This rule needs changing seeing as the main menu junior food is only for 12 and under.this put a dampener on what was a nice evening and stay. Would we come again ? If having to have the argument over the breakfasts no if...
Read moreThe room was decent. The bar staff were competent and friendly. Unfortunately I would not recommend eating here. The "chefs" at this Steakhouse have difficulty cooking a rare steak and boiled veg...for £17 I would expect a better steak than the tough well done boot sole I got. I also requested the £3 side seasonal veg...received mouldy rotten carrots and 3 day old cooked veg left over, the tikka was cold and missing the mint raita, When we first arrived we were told by a waitress to have a seat and someone would take our order, after 15 minutes of waiting someone from another table asked if they could order and she told them you had to order at the bar, we asked her why she told us someone would serve us and she replied " I didn't know". When our food came we had no cutlery and asked the same waitress for cutlery and she said okay, but then walked right passed the cutlery and into the kitchen to collect more plates so another member of staff got us some for us. It is a shame the place is pretty and has potential but is let down by the incompetent front of house staff and incompetent cooks that belong in McDonald's. I paid for the meal in full, was offered another steak but it was 9:30 at this point and I was tired and filled up on chips.....when i informed the gormless older waitress about the steak and rotten veg whe she asked us if our meal was ok she stared blankly for a while and said she would tell the chefs....never had the coutesy to give me feedback regarding food, never offered to remove from bill, I should have read the other reviews and I would have grabbed a bite elsewhere. Good sleep in the hotel though, quiet and comfy. Friendly reception staff. I think if the place got at least 1 decent manager they could change the place around, hire 1 good chef and get the rest trained better. Don't call yourself a Steakhouse if you can't cook a steak, one of the easiest things to cook. Health and hygiene in kitchen desperately...
