Not a good experience from the moment we walked in. The man whom I’m assuming is the owner, was rude to start, almost walked out right then and wished we had! Rudely shown a table at the same time as being told he was with another customer. Asked to sign in on the NHS app or write details down, reasonably politely. Shortly asked what we wanted and said a table for two, shown another table. Ordered food and drink. While we waited, the said man was continually rude to whoever entered the pub. A man came in, no mask, and he picked up a menu. The barman snatched the menu, told the customer to put a mask on, rudely showed him a table and said it was table service only, even when the customer just wanted a quick look at the beers. The barman (owner) kept negatively shaking his head and continued his rudeness to his customers. Our food turned up quite quickly, looked ok but was AWFUL! We ate some but left most. My husband had ham, egg, chips and peas - ham did not look exciting, I had steak and ale pie, gravy, peas and chips - both our chips were nothing to write home about and my pie although a decent size was Very Chewy and Dry. When we asked for the bill a female said she would just take our plates away and disappeared without returning. We asked the barman for the bill and left. At NO point we’re we asked if everything was ok. You would have thought, upon seeing most of our meals NOT EATEN, we would have been ask asked this! Basil Fawlty has more charm! I CANNOT give this any star rating! Please Ignore the 1 star as I could not post this...

Sunday 20th august. After having had a real nice time at steam train station, lovely people there. 6 of us then went for a drink in the station tavern, right next door to the station, Was served 3 btls bud, pint real ale 2 soft drinks. Bud out of date by 4 months, real ale tasted eggy. Didn’t notice the date of buds straight away, it wasn’t until half way through his real ale one of our party said this ale tastes awful real eggy, that made me look at the buds. & sure enough there it was expires April 2023….Told the landlord of the out of date buds. Refused a refund & to be honest had an attitude that stank. Blamed the out of date buds on the brewery. I said to him surely the onus is on you to check your stock in shelf rotation!🤷‍♀️ he said no. Had such a terrible attitude, wished we’d just walked out. But one of our party had already ordered a drink & didn’t want to leave it after he’d poured it. He gave us a short half a cider free to make up for the £12 paid on the 3 buds!!!!! Never again. He should never be in hospitality, definitely needs a lot more training in...

We came here for lunch for the NYMR 50th Anniversary Event before taking the steam train for the day. Having struggled to get them to answer the phone the day prior to get a table booked I finally managed to get through after leaving a message. The pub is small with a very traditional feel and if you are stopping for a drink then it is fine. However, the food was very bad.

This culinary delight was served in a very aesthetically pleasing polystyrene takeaway tray, consisting of chips and a warmed up frozen something. It was not what anyone would expect when booking a table at an establishment so close to a prestigious tourist attraction. And at £9.95 per meal I was stunned at the sheer audacity of being served something I can get from a takeaway for half the price. So yes, our 5 polystyrene trays with a handful of chips and un frozen food came to £50 on its own. We will not be returning again, and would not...

Great to see this place back doing food. Menu is stripped back but everything I saw come out looked delicious. Opted for the Chicken Parmo and wasn’t disappointed. Big portion, prepped and cooked really well. Staff are smiley and pleasant and working as a cracking little team. They are clearly well known in the village, with many people coming in to chat and creating the feel that this place is a little hub for the village. Well kept beer too! Have been three further times since writing this review initially and each visit has been as strong as the first.

The Station Tavern is a nice pub right next to the level crossing and the railway station. It's a great place for a drink when visiting the railway. There is a good selection of beers, lager and cider, including hand pulled cask conditioned real ale the staff are friendly and welcoming it's like a proper pub should be.
