The Sticky Wicket — Restaurant in England

We came here for a meal with friends on a quiet day for the ground after an appointment. The venue was quiet which for us was ideal as some of the party are neurodivergent and struggle in busy places. The food was demolished by our entire group including desserts! I ordered a light bite bean chilli wrap and it was huge really couldn't fault the food at all. The staff were polite and given the size of our orders worked so well together to organise our food coming out together and ensuring everyone got the right food and if we needed anything else. Our party also had allergies and they catered for them with ease although I would recommend contacting them ahead of your visit just to be on the safe side. I've been twice. Always met with a nice smiling young man and a grumpy girl, not sure what I said to offend her but a dead stare and not even a hello or thanks. The location has plenty of parking and it allows dogs which is nice. It's big enough inside and has plenty of TVs for entertainment. However, the food is just mediocre. My partner got a cub sandwich. One side of the bread was burnt black and the other undercooked - pure soft white. I got the blue cheese and bacon burger. There was no bacon. The fries and onions rings were nice but they're hard to mess up and the portions are good. It's a real shame as it's convenient for us but maybe it needs a shake up. New chef and staff training? We visited the Sticky Wicket in the hope of watching a Champions League game the other week, featuring a UK team at a local sports bar.

We got there early and finished our food, preparing to watch a match, we enquired which of the games were being shown. At this point we were advised the pub was closing in a few minutes, despite there being a number of tables already seated and the opening hours showing as not due to close for a further 2 hours.

Having driven from Durham to a sports bar and watch a match, it was extremely disappointing that we had to leave, miss the start of a game and find another pub in the city centre to watch it instead. It also means we’d be unable to attend in future as we’d be unsure if the pub was going to remain open or not.
