A good selection of food, friendly staff and a sizeable dining area but be prepared for it to be busy!
We visited on a Wednesday night and luckily we had booked ahead of time, the place was packed and I couldn’t see any spare tables - very surprising but great to see for a midweek evening!
The menu here is massive, plenty of choices amongst the many categories - there’s definitely something for everyone!
Unfortunately we had to wait around 30 minutes for our drinks & food order to be taken, we were tucked away in the corner and given how busy it was, a bit of a wait is understandable.
Our server was apologetic for the delay and she was very friendly, she also made sure our drinks came straight away to avoid further delay.
Food came after around an hour, again - a bit of a wait but the conversation and the atmosphere was good so we weren’t overly bothered about the time, like I said it was really busy so it’s understandable!
The food came and the portion sizes were great, I went for the peri peri butterfly chicken breast, the chicken was cooked well but it did lack a little in the peri peri seasoning - maybe a peri peri dip with this dish would be a nice complement. The chips were lovely and the coleslaw was really good too.
I was very full after the meal and didn’t have room for pudding, the cakes in the stand definitely did look good though so I’ll have to make sure I get one next time!
Overall, a lovely pub meal in a nice pub/restaurant and I would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
I will just add that the parking isn’t the best, the car park fills up very quickly and you may have to park on the street so keep this in mind if you are visiting...
Read moreI went here for the first time in probably 15 years and had heared good reports. All I can say is that if the food is normally like I had then people must be very easily pleased. I had ham, eggs and chips and my grandson had chicken nuggets and chips. The chips were shockingly bad,.... dried up, not fulyl hot and really hard. The ham and eggs were just about OK. If they want to know how ham, egg and chips should be then I suggest someone from Sunny Hill goes and orders it at Dixon' s either in Whitehaven or at Dunmail Park Workington. We were put in a table in a dingy sort of corridor area with an unused Bain Marie unit next to us. OK, I hadn't booked and they were busy but that area needs tidied up. The only positive comment I woukd make is that the young staff were very pleasant. You may ask " why didn't he complaint at the time". I would have done but we had waited quite a long time to get our food and we were in a hurry. Would I go back...
Read moreBooked to have a family meal yesterday 11/8/20 to eat at 1800hrs we turned up at 1750hrs to find only half the tables we had booked were ready for us and in fact one of the tables still had used plates and food on it , not a good start , but it got worse as we were still waiting for a waitress to come and take our food order 90 min later , and this was after I had to find a waitress to take our drinks order , having waited for over 30 min for someone to come to our table , when we finally got our food just after 2000hrs we found that even though most of us had ordered steaks to be cooked in various ways , medium , rare , etc , when they arrived they were all cooked the same , tough , overall not a pleasant experience especially with the hot and humid weather conditions both inside the pub and outside and with young children present was even more uncomfortable and will not be visiting again...
