You go to the spoons because, well, it's the spoons. You know what you are getting and you know you're getting it for a sensible price. This venue is probably a bit of a difficult building with awkward space, but it's a bit awkward. Different levels have been created to break it up a bit and I can't help but think a few too many tables have been crammed in. Guests were falling over each other and the couple behind us had to stagger chairs with us to all get in. we couldn't find the highchairs and asked a member of staff who pointed vaguely in a corner. She eventually elaborated pointing out a pile of luggage. It turned out the highchairs were under other guests luggage (again because everything is so crammed in) but it was left to us to deal with asking them to move it to get a highchair out.

We visited at a Friday lunch it was surprisingly busy, but we didn't struggle to find a seat.

We was able to order using the website at table and the process worked well. Though the combination deals weren't well presented online. Service was prompt.

The food was as expected, unspectacular but solid. My only complaint foodwise was they was a bit skimpy with the chips.

Sadly the disabled toilet (and perhaps baby change?) Was out of use and there was no baby change in the ladies or gents.

The cubicle we used in the gents also had a broken toilet roll holder, seemingly not a new fault as it had been removed completely. The toilet roll was thus on the floor, wavey as it and been soaking up the ahem, "moisture" that finds itself in the floors of toilets. Probably would have been better to lock that cubicle out of use!

In short there are much better...

I decided on a relatively early pre-10am large breakfast, with extras of bacon, black pudding, tomato, and two pints of beer - because at 99p a pint for Worthington's why not? Food was very tasty, arrived hot - even the beans - which friends advise may not be, service was friendly, quick and convenient via the app, beer well looked after, prices very reasonable. Tempted to try lunch here sometime - but I really dislike it it in here when it's noisy, which it is when busy, so I tend to avoid it here. This breakfast on the other hand is something I will definitely do again. Earlier in the day rather than later.

As I write this it has just turned 10:15am, is getting busier and has reached the point I find the noise difficult. Some basic acoustic treatment on the multiple flat surfaces such as areas of ceiling and walls wouldn't go amiss to help those similarly afflicted as me. (I can't cope with the noise in here when it's busy).

Only one other minor negative, the gents slightly pongy, but they did look clean.

In summary: Would I do breakfast here again? When it's quiet, definitely, it's excellent value and...

Very hit and miss with food, we've had occasions where we have gone in with a company for a works meeting and we have ordered, and the food comes out okay ( burgers/chips) but the team has become unwell after. I myself have gone in with friends / family and some of the meals would be exactly as ordered or not at all. One friend had ordered a burger with no salad and it came back with no other filling than burger meat which baffled us. Was resolved with a free drink but didn't fix the food issue.

On a good day, the food can be perfect and not a single thing wrong with the entire meal and everyone leaves happy and full.

Can never fault the staff there, all of them do everything they can and are always pleasant and welcoming. Happy to accommodate and happy to fix orders as much as they are allowed too. So for the bar and serving staff you can never really complain.

As said definitely a hit and miss here. But I'm sure every place...

This is such a well positioned pub right on the front at Whitehaven. It is nicefully decorated with a good range of seating depending on group size 2 seater tables, 4 seater or large settee effects. Staff are very nice and front of house staff kept busy tidying and clearing tables. The toilets are on ground level so that is always a bonus to any spooners. Would recommend this pub and indeed a trip to Whitehaven for a grand day out.

As per usual, an excellent old building, made into a place that the community get to go inside and get a great bit of food and a little story about the local area. The missus and I took 4 kids in here and fed all 6 of us, including drinks, for less than £80. And the food is exactly what you want when out with the kids, a sensible amount, delivered to the table in no time at all.
