Very disappointed with our visit. Having been recommended this pub/restaurants for the food we were eager to visit. Upon arrival parking was an issue, as there are no real marked our bays and looks like the parking area is shared with the motor homes next door. Had to park on the main road. Walking in was greeted by a tall slim gentleman who was not happy at all to see us. No hello or welcome just handed 2 menu over and walked away. I assumed just pick a table and sit down I guess. Decor is very tired and really needs updating. Table was not cleaned from the last customer clearly. Didn't come to take orders. We went over to the bar to ask if we had to order at bar, for which we were told yes only to see him wonder over to a table of customer who came 20min after us to take an order. Food was average but had the service had been even a little better I would have gone back and recommended to family and friends. I got the feeling we weren't welcome there and it was more for his regular customers. Didn't even smile when we paid and left a tip. The tip was for the chef as food was cooked well and presented well.. if that guy is the owner god help his business in these hard times. If its the staff I do hope the owners consider some...
Read moreVery authentic, fresh and tasty Thai food! My partner has traveled extensively in the far east and I am very fond of Asian cuisine so when we relocated to Reading two years ago one target was to find a good Thai. This was the first time we have been to The Turners Arms and we will be back! We started with the mixed starter for two which is an excellent selection of traditional Thai starters, all very tasty and hard to find any fault. The mains were the Duck special and the Pad Kraphaw, also with duck. Both dishes were mild in terms of heat but very flavoursome, from the freshness of the vegetables and distinct flavours in the dish it is obvious these were cooked fresh to order. Great old pub surroundings and we will look forward to visiting again when the fire is lit as that would perfect the cozy...
Read moreNot much to report. Green curry was ok, tempura prawns are not tempura but a sort of fluffy batter that was all you can taste, and the pad thai was as average as you will eat.
The place was empty other than 4 people and the resteraunt empty and dated.
With so many eateries working hard to produce great food, friendly service and compete in an incredibly hard industry, none of this can be said of the Turners Arms.
It is a shame as there is not a Thai resteraunt within 6 miles of this place, and if they got it right, I suspect it would do very...
