I’m going to try and keep this as balanced as I can.

Firstly, I will say that we went on a Saturday evening, possibly the busiest time of the week, so take that into consideration if you plan to go at this time.

We had booked a table for two and we’re seated at a table right by the double doors.

This wouldn’t be a problem If the double doors were shut, but only one set of doors were closed with the others being propped open - meaning every time the door opened , we got a blast of cold air.

After sitting there for an hour and the food still not arriving (we hadn’t been told the food will take an hour). My wife was getting so cold that I had to ask to be moved.

In fairness, the manager was very good, Moved us promptly, apologised and sorted everything out so the food would come to the right table when it finally arrived.

And after about another 10 minutes, the food did finally arrive.

The first thing I noticed was that the salmon was very overcooked, quite hard and rubbery in places but as we had waited so long, I didn’t want to send it back. Also, the chips were only tepid. The vegetables were very nice and the food was well presented.

My wife’s food was okay as well, except for the tepid chips.

The staff were good, very polite and the front of house Staff seemed very efficient, but I cannot help but think there was an issue with staff in the kitchen, as things were slow, or maybe it was just the fact that it was a Saturday evening.

I’m not writing this to slate the place, just to give an honest review.

Would we go back? Possibly, but definitely not on a...

Most disappointing birthday meal for my son’s 11th birthday. We booked a table for 8 people at 6.15pm, we placed our order by 6.30 and was informed it would be 30 minute wait for food. By 7.30 we hadn’t received any meals. We enquired at the till about how long it would be as we had a birthday boy and 3 young children who were very very hungry! The waitress, called out to the kitchen and they said it was being plated up. At 7.45, 6 of the 8 meals arrived. The fish was burnt and dry and the corn out the cob was getting cold waiting for the meal! We were then informed that the 2 other meals would be an additional 5 mins as they needed to wait for the chips!! These 2 meals arrived at 8pm. All The other meals had been ate and my husband and dad were still eating. My 70 year old dad, who is due an operation on Tuesday for achanasia, ate too late and bought on his symptoms ten fold!

As they were finishing their meals I went up to ask about pudding waiting times and explain about the poor food quality and the 1 hour and a half waiting time on the food for my sons birthday!

All they did was apologies and although I ordered Ā£30 worth of deserts, didn’t even offer a discount. In Total we spent Ā£130 for a disastrous meal to celebrate my sons 11 birthday. There was no explanation for the delays! This is such a shame as we have been to the turnpike several times and had great meals! Customer service this evening was so disappointing and it wasn’t even busy!

I was asked to reach out via email which I have done with...

Nestled in the heart of Soundwell, The Turnpike offers a cosy respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting this quaint establishment, and I must say, it left quite an impression.

Upon entering, I was greeted by the warm ambiance and inviting dƩcor. The rustic charm of the interior, coupled with the friendly smiles of the staff, immediately set the tone for a delightful experience.

The menu boasted an array of mouth-watering options, from traditional pub fare to more eclectic dishes. I opted for the sizzling tandoori with skin on fries, and it surpassed all expectations. The flavours were expertly crafted, and each bite was a culinary delight.

In addition to the delectable cuisine, The Turnpike also offers an impressive selection of beverages. Whether you're in the mood for a crisp pint of beer or a refreshing cocktail, there's something to satisfy every palate.

What truly sets The Turnpike apart, however, is the atmosphere. Whether you're catching up with friends over drinks or enjoying a quiet meal with loved ones, the ambiance is relaxed and welcoming. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, lost in conversation and good company.

Overall, my experience at The Turnpike was nothing short of excellent. From the friendly service to the delicious food and cosy atmosphere, it's a gem worth visiting time and time again. Whether you're a local or just passing through, be sure to make a stop at The Turnpike Pub – you won't be...

#Ad #Gifted What a great visit and thank you so much for inviting us! Sizzling sound was really so tempting haha🤤This place is recently refurbished and the vibes was definitely lovely, esp for families with kids and friends hanging around for drinks! What we ordered: 🌟New Chuck Wagon 🌟Caribbean-style Jerk Chicken Skewers 🌟Cadbury Lovers’ Sundae (V) OMGGG*V* The skewers was AWESOME! The chicken was really juicy and tender, plus there were lots of veggie as well! A very balanced mealā˜ŗļøThe New Chuck Wagon featured sirloin steak topped with Monterey Jack cheese, bacon and onion rings. It was reallly big chuck with lots of favours! Definitely loving the Sundae🧔Best dessert for summer time with wafer as well haha Highly recommending for families to visit as they have wide range of menu, even one dedicated for kids as well!

A well-used city pub with a mostly localised patronage. In good condition and upkeep for establishments like this and well attended on this weekday lunchtime. The establishment is on the Cask Marque Ale Trail and I'm here for the beer only - although I see plenty of meal orders (slowly) going through. (I have seen happier looking front of house staff) The Ale is Doombar, Doombar and a Black Sheep product called Blitzen 4%abv - that I fancied, but was off. I settled for a bottle of Atlantic 4.5%abv - Sharps Brewery. Ok Lots of well set outside seating when the weather behaves, where one can be amused watching the traffic misbehave while having a leisurely drink. Limited parking for the non local, but off street available around-abouts with a short walk.

Visited tonight and the pub has changed for the worst.. The staff are very unwelcoming. The pub is quiet, no atmosphere, its always COLD. Tonight the pub was COLD and nearing closing time. Then the doors are opened to make it even colder. I had to put my coat back on part way through the night. There is no atmosphere. Not many customers. The Turnpike has become a very UNWELCOME PUB and some ridiculous quiz over the sound system so not even any music. It used to be a busy pub with quality food and a good atmosphere. Now it closes at 10:00pm, no atmosphere and NO HEATING ON, so its cold and unwelcoming. Things need to change or I can see it closing.
