Quite disappointing, I'd heard good things about this pub, but alas it wasn't good yesterday. We were attending a funeral at the Crem down the road and planned to spend afterwards Eating and drinking in the Watermead Inn. First impressions wasn't good as the single member of staff was very grumpy and made it fairly obvious that we weren't welcome by grunting at us in response to our orders. The table we sat at had ketchup and brown sauce smeared over it, the chair I sat in had sweet wrappers, dust and hair down the back of the cushion. It obviously hadn't been Covid cleaned. We decided to drink up and leave, well I left a half of my pint of Aspalls as it felt a bit dirty. In fairness to the Single member of staff, I did see her attempt to clean a table with spray and a roll of blue paper, but no sooner had she got out from behind the bar someone else needed serving and she had to return to her serving duties. She did shout out "thank you very much" to several customers whom were leaving the pub, but it was as if she was thankful that they were going rather than thanking them for their custom. Anyway she didn't thank us when we left, and I'd cleaned the table we sat at with wipes. So we ended up down the road at Horse and Jockey. 9 of us in the end. Fully staffed, clean, covid compliant, very friendly and accommodating. Just what you want after a sad...
Read moreWe had 4 meals 2 of each. Basic recipies. Quality of mash potatoe was watery and soft. No gravy (because its not Sunday) If you cant make a single cup of gravy in a kitchen that cators for 45+ tables. Thats poor cheffing mate. Otherwise the ladies loved their chiken dish and I liked the Romanian style sausage and how the vegg was cooked. Well vegg I mean just runner beans. Puddings were good also. Loved the Sundae ice cream 1 of each flavour scoop. Suprised I wasn't told I couldn't have one because it wasn't Sundae (lol). The staff however were all, excellent. Accommodating, friendly and polite. Table service was good and well timed and the cleanliness of the venue, bathrooms was all very well kept. A great mid range prices, good for the area, nice lake views on the right tables. I was particularly impressed with. Ot only a dog friendly atmosphere but attentive staff, our bar tender spotted and offered water to our dog who was quiet and hidden under the table. What a gentleman. When in the area I would pop in here...
Read moreAttended the funeral of my Aunt yesterday 4th August and after the ceremony we all travelled to the Inn. Lovely position and the bandstand area had been reserved for the buffet .Everyone was delighted with the food . It was extremely fresh and there was a good selection of food. Home made pizzas still warm , sausage rolls , spring rolls, thin slices of French bread sliced and lightly toasted with small chunks of pate to add to them, baps filled with lettuce and ham and some others that were vegan - did not know what was in them, onion rings , plates of spicy coated chips , cubes of delicious brownies and more that I didn’t sample. Having travelled down from Norfolk and this buffet was around 2pm - we were starving. Coffee was refilled a couple of times as it was no longer hot. Staff pleasant and friendly helping to make a relaxing and special time for all of us emotionally tired customers. Would heartily recommend The...
