During my recent visit to West Bulls Pub on a Sunday, I met with my 90-year-old grandparents and the rest of my family to enjoy a meal. Unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. My grandparents, who have smaller appetites, were disappointed to find that there were no options for smaller plates or lunch-sized portions available on the Sunday menu.
In an effort to find a solution, I approached the staff and inquired if my grandparents could order from the kids menu. To address this concern, a manager was called over. While the manager was not overtly rude, I was disheartened by the lack of apologetic sentiment and the absence of any willingness to suggest alternative options. This response left my grandparents feeling deeply upset and embarrassed.
It is important for establishments to consider the inclusivity of their offerings, especially for older patrons or those with health conditions who may require smaller portion sizes. By neglecting to provide smaller options on Sundays, West Bulls Pub missed an opportunity to cater to a wider range of customers.
Despite my grandparents' disappointment, they ultimately decided to opt for a regular carvery and shared their food among everyone at the table. However, the overall experience had already left a negative impression, and it is unlikely that we will be returning to West Bulls Pub in the future due to this lack of consideration.
On a positive note, I would like to acknowledge the bar staff whom I discussed this issue with. They were much more apologetic and sympathetic compared to the manager. In fact, they expressed agreement that the system in place was unfair and stated that they would have done something to help if they had the authority to do so.
In conclusion, our visit to West Bulls Pub on Sunday was marred by the absence of smaller portion options and the manager's unapologetic response. This lack of inclusivity for older patrons or those with health conditions left my grandparents deeply disappointed and embarrassed. While the bar staff showed more understanding, it is evident that improvements need to be made to accommodate a broader range of...
Read moreTo be honest I was very disappointed with West Bulls, Hull. We used to visit often and it has changed for the worst. We visited as a family of 6 for a meal for my sons 13th Birthday, it firstly took a long time to be served drinks even though there was three staff behind the counter and two just stood talking. After purchasing 5 alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks we chose a seating area and ordered food, 2 regular carvery’s 1 Full Works Carvery, The Philly Cheese Steak Pizza and The Dirty Philly Burger. Waited half and hour for food and it was terrible 😞 When we went to the carvery the servers were too busy getting take out orders ready so there was a wait stood in a line, the amount of meat given was non existent, there was hardly no choice of vegetables, no stuffing, no roasties, no parsnips the only option was carrots, cauliflower cheese that didn’t taste at all of cheese, peas that were like bullets and mash and the trays were not topped up, all the food tasted bland and 3 of us were left very disappointed ☹️ My partner who ordered the Philly Burger wasn’t impressed either, he said the burgers were frozen and heated up, they were paper thin and dry and there certainly was no ‘smothered with Barbacoa pulled beef and Nacho cheese’ within the burger and the handful of chips was dismal, for £11.79 he expected it to be juicy and greasy and naughty but it was terrible, as for my sons Birthday Pizza, was just as bad, poorly made and a waste of money, gutted really as I used to really enjoy coming to West Bulls but don’t think I will be coming again 😞 Spent a lot of money and the cost was way too high for the quality of food received.
You should concentrate on the customers who actually come in and dine at the pub rather than the take outs which have obviously become a priority and taken over the...
Read moreWe chose The West Bulls for my step-mum's wake after visiting other potential venues in the area of Hull Crematorium. Carl and the other staff were very friendly and reassuring when we first enquired. There is plenty of parking and they explained they could cater for our large numbers, providing a hot buffet at just over £10/head and puddings. This compared very well to the offerings from other venues and we knew West Bulls was known for good food as a Stonehouse pizza and carvery restaurant. We weren't completely sure on numbers, but settled on catering for 80, but were reassured they could accommodate 20-30% more. They segregated half the pub for us but said we could spread out further and assured us that plenty of staff would be working on the Monday afternoon. Carl greeted everyone on arrival, and had the fantastic food coming out within a short period. Carl also had my step-mum's folk music playing and a photo slideshow of her life on the tvs, which made the experience that little bit more special for the family and friends. Everyone was tucking into the food and said how great it was. Pizza boxes and cardboard containers were provided for any remaining food - there wasn't much as it was so nice. We couldn't thank the team enough for the fantastic service and would highly recommend. Amazing service and we'll be visiting again soon...
