The place is a lovely building in a great location, it's unfortunate though, that upon entry the staff did not seem particularly friendly or welcoming and there was an awkward silence when we explained we had reserved a table and gave the name it was reserved under, the staff just looked at each other with an 'i have no idea' look on their faces.
We were seated at our table for 3, which was not clean, but the member of staff did have it cleaned promptly and when I asked about vegetarian food availability, to predetermine if anything was unavailable, we were just brought another menu, with burgers on, I must add there were already in excess of eight menus on our tables, so one more couldn't hurt.
We ordered through the app which was a pretty quick and smooth procedure and after what seemed like less than a 5 minute wait, the food was out, chicken dippers and chips for the little one, no complaints there, the ultimate vegetarian burger, which I was told was really nice and my ultimate beef burger topped with crispy bacon, jalapenos and spicy pulled pork, it was my preference to eat the burger without the bacon, as I suspected it was smoked, which I did not feel went well with the burger, but this was one of the nicest burgers I have ever eaten from a pub, by some distance aswell.
Desserts? Not usually for me but I had one of the kids brownie and ice creams, which were amazing for the menial price of £1.25 and the sticky toffee pudding was enjoyed just as much, but for the price difference between the kids and the standard portions? The kids dessert was the clear winner here.
I inevitably made the trip to the toilets, which were in blatant need of numerous, repairs and they didn't smell particularly nice either, but they had got water, soap and a working hand dryer that can actually dry your hands, not one of those warm breath ones.
In conclusion, I would definitely come back here, despite it being a little out of my way, the food alone was worth it, it's a nice pub I feel just needs a little bit of an interior lift, the carpets and furniture feel and look a good 15 years old, so it would be nice to see these renewed and this pub deserves to be busier than it was if all the food...
Read moreWent here with family part of my birthday. Staff still unfriendly and rather arrogant. Smiled at the bar staff and she just glared at me. Food was cold and the meat was tough on all our plates. We were met with some opposition when requesting more gravy. When our plates were finally cleared at least 30 minutes after finishing our meal the waitress asked if everything was ok we explained about the cold food and tough meat and she apologised and stated she would let the chef know. We were offered free desserts but none of us wanted anything. She came back to the table and explained she was u able to authorise anything and if we wanted to complain we need to do this to her supervisor. Strange the supervisor did not come over themselves and makes me wonder if we had asked for the free desserts would the supervisor decline this. As we explained we did not need to complain but we would just not go back. We visit this pub regularly and have noticed a huge decline in customer service with staff behaving in an unprofessional manner. Do not need this when we have six adults celebrating a birthday. This sort of service I wouldn’t accept at McDonald’s let alone from a huge organisation such as Marstons. However this is becoming the norm as the food quality and service is very similar to Red Sails and we stoped using there a long time ago. Looks like we will travel further out for Sunday lunch from now on as there is so many Marstons pubs with poor...
Read moreAttended a wake yesterday. I wouldn't recommend! The family was mortified due to the lack of buffet for the price paid - just over £350 for a buffet which consisted of 5-6 trays of sandwiches and possibly 2 grab bags of salted crisps with the delight of some massive pickled onions thrown in - wow!!! 60p extra per head and could of got everyone a burger and chips from the pub menu - that's how shockingly over charged and conned we was for this so called 'buffet'. Sadly we didn't take a photo but we could of knocked that up ourselves for probably less then £50. Buffet table was set up and food was bought out only filling just about half the table and then was asked to pay straight away by the bar staff - thought this was a little sneaky as we was under the impression more food would follow with so little on the table so far. Well wasn't we wrong!! payment made and no further food, numerous members of the family asked staff the question and was just shoved off and told they cannot do anything more. Luckily the family pulled together and made the most of it due to the circumstances of the day. Shocking service and price for what was offered. Would not recommend at all if you want to be conned out of a load of money for a few triangle sandwiches and a few crisps to go around 60 people. It was embarrassing for the family as pretty much everyone in the room had something to say about it. Shame on this company and...
