The White Horse Bedford — Restaurant in England

Have always enjoyed visiting the White Horse due to good food, lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. My friends and I chose the pub to meet for our Christmas lunch. We booked several weeks ago and when I booked was asked if we would be ordering from the festive menu to which I replied probably but had to check with my friends. I was not informed that if using the festive menu I would need to leave a deposit and do a pre- order. I attempted to contact the pub by phone soon afterwards to say we would be ordering from the festive menu but unfortunately was unable to get through. I then forgot to try again but didn’t think it would be a problem as hadn’t been told they needed to know in advance. We arrived today to be told we couldn’t order from the festive menu which was hugely disappointing especially as the winter menu was somewhat limited. We decided to order a panini each which came with a soft drink. Unfortunately not every soft drink was part of the deal which was not made clear to us. My friend even checked with the waitress that an orange and lemonade was part of the deal and was told it was but turned out to be not the case. All in all a very disappointing visit today. The food was fine although when my friend asked for a salad with her panini instead of chips it came with a handful of lettuce only. Hardly a salad! We are hoping this is a one off and will use the pub again although due to the limited menu choice we have decided to go elsewhere for our January meet up. We went for a Sunday roast a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a few birthdays in the month. The venue was lovely, beautiful decor very comfortable, plenty of room around tables. We were sat at a table which was perfect as there was a few of us (booked in about a week prior to our visit). The Sunday roast was impeccable, it was a sizable portion for an adult meal and also for the children too. I opted for a burger unlike everyone else, and that was really good, really tasty. Food delivered was not that was ordered,ie fish and chips came as fish pie,Indian curry with nan was described as pita bread,and you would expect the yogurt and pickle to be in a ramekin,it was put on top of the curry so no choice in the matter.Both meals were £17.50 each (ouch!).One of us ordered a special of the day pie with mash and peas,where the peas could be counted on one hand.When this was queried we were told they had run out of peas,how come when they had a shop across the road,and were offered brocoli instead with extra mash.Cost of this meal approx £17.After all this,the meals did taste nice...
