The White Horse — Restaurant in England

This pub restaurant has a nice menu variety including vegetarian dishes, there is a nice outdoor seating area with a lovely view, perfect a for those warm days. I would say it's a family environment, the toilets were nice and clean We went with my husband and kids, and all asked for different dishes, my kids had 1 child portion spaghetti Bolognese and it was very tasty, the tomato sauce was really nice and so was the portion as they both (ages 4 & 2) ate from 1 meal l and still left some of it ( and they love pasta). My husband had a stake on a hot stone, I have to say at the beginning it didn't look as good but as it carried on grilling itself it was very juicy and as my husband described it, "it was a different taste in each bite" it came with a good portion of chips and salad. I had a halloumi and peppers grilled which came with 2 different salads and a portion of chips.. I was very satisfied with both taste and portion. The waiters were really nice and friendly, when we asked them opinions about what to get . We all had a drink my husband a beer and everything came out to £44....

We hosted a party at the white horse, Borstal. What seemed like a bargain from the initial conversations turned to complete opposite of our expectations. When we booked, we were quoted a certain price per head and paid a deposit, they claimed that was all it would cost as they make profit behind the bar from these kind of events. We confirmed on multiple occasions how many heads we wanted for the buffet at the party and was told this would not be an issue. However, at the end of the night we were charged for 40 heads for the buffet instead of the 25 which the staff done without our consent, to then be told there was a minimum charge of £600 which was never discussed. I was waiting for a response via email but have yet to hear anything back. Think they need to make it very clear about these ‘costs’ that can come to quite a shock at the end of what would have been a great evening. I was one of a large party who had prebooked for Sunday lunch. I was seated in the restaurant rather than the bar area. My review is based solely on the length of time I sat waiting for my food to arrive at my table and the meal I ate. I sat down at the table at 12.30pm as booked but my meal didn't arrive until almost 2.30pm. I know we were a large party but that was just too long to wait. Aspects of the meal were delicious. Vegetables, gravy and roast potatoes were yummy, however, the roast lamb was excessively fatty and gristly. The evidence of this was left on my plate.
