A very unimpressive first experience at Turkuaz restaurant. We had booked a table for 9 which according to the booking platform should have been a 2.5 hour booking. Upon arrival, my sister let them know she was here for a booking for 9 and gave the name, they didn't listen and just pointed her to a table. When she walked to it, she realised it was a table for two. It took her speaking to three people before they actually asked if she had a booking and showed her to the correct table. There was food all over the floor and the decor is tired (with some decorations still left over from Chiquitos). We had children with us so I asked for kids menus (had checked their website to make sure they had one) and they just said "it's just fish fingers or nuggets". Didn't bring anything over, the main menu didn't have all the kids drinks options on it but she just said "look at the back (of the main menu)" when we asked about kids drinks. When it came to ordering, they asked if we were ready to order drinks and I let them know we were ready to order everything and they said okay, so I went ahead and ordered my drink and then said my food order and they snapped "let's just do drinks". Throughout the whole evening they were very rude, no smiles, no asking how we are, no eye contact etc. Anyway, we had our food which was decent, then asked for some takeaway boxes for the leftovers. As the party was packing the food into the boxes still, they were trying to grab the plates from us to clear the table. One of my sisters literally just had to throw her food into the box and pack it properly afterwards as the waitress was grabbing at the plate and leaning over someone else in the party to get to it. We'd only been in the restaurant for 1 hour 20 minutes at this point. They then came over and started clearing away the placemats without asking if we wanted dessert or anything else which we thought was strange but thought maybe they were going to bring new ones over. They also were completely impatient and grabbed up some table decorations (it was a birthday and we had called ahead to check it was okay to bring some small decorations) before we could pack them away. We then sat there with multiple staff coming in and out looking at our table from afar but not coming over. After 30 minutes, they just came over, didn't say anything, didn't make eye contact, and just put wet wipes down and started cleaning the table with us still sat there. I then said "sorry, you're cleaning the table, but you've not even asked us if we want dessert or anything?" he said "oh okay" so I asked if they could bring the menus, but by this point the rest of the party were reluctant to spend any more time in the restaurant when we were clearly unwanted from the beginning. We asked for the bill and explained why and they were completely unbothered. They then got grumpy and stormed off without apologising or thanking us for coming when we took the service charge off (for all the reasons above) and all gave us dirty looks as we left. This is probably one of the worst experiences we've had in a restaurant, let alone a Turkish restaurant where I've always felt service is exceptional compared to other types of restaurants. I would NEVER come back to this restaurant or recommend to friends or family. If I could give 0 stars for service and atmosphere I would. It was incredibly embarrassing that I'd booked there and that was...
Read moreStaff were incredibly rude. We booked a table for 21:15. Before we even arrived to the restaurant (our first dinner of our little holiday break) we had received a message from the restaurant in a completely unprofessional manner using slang to say by the way we close at 10pm. We didn't see this message until after our awful experience here otherwise we wouldn't have bothered. When we did arrive at the restaurant early at 21:10 we were then told again in a very rude manner, just so you know we close at 10, so you're going to have to be finished by then. So this already wasn't a great start. When we sat down the 4-5 staff members they had on shift were constantly walking past our table like vultures, feeling there discontent that we were there so late. As we went to order we were told we could only order off the grill menu in the middle which obviously didn't give us very many options at all! As soon as our order was taken bread, dip and salad was just thrown down on the table with no explanation or service what's so ever. They then proceed after cooking our food bring it out completely wrong. On the menu it states all dishes come with rice&bulgar. We were served to small bowls of chips with an explanation of well we didn't think anyone else would come and threw it away, the rude waiter that had told us we had to be done by 10 said well what else do you want? And i asked well what can we have and he said i dont know what do you want, whilst the rest of our food sat there going cold. With that kind of attitude i really dont know how he stands to work in the hospitality industry, being a chef myself. Now we aren't massive chip people so we completely misses out on the complete turkish restaurant experience. The whole time we were eating all the staff were either swaying pass us like vultures the whole time or dead eying us from parts of the room. Before we had even finished eating the lights were being turned off as well as the music being turned right down so dessert or turkish tea being offered was completely out of the window. The whole evening was a shambles which was a massive shame as I'm not one to complain or write a bad review but this was probably one of the worst experiences...
Read moreWe dined at this Turkish restaurant on a busy Saturday night in mid-December. The venue had a lively yet comfortable atmosphere—it was bustling without feeling overcrowded. Upon arrival, we were promptly shown to our seats, and within minutes, we were served complimentary flatbreads, salad, and dips—a lovely touch to start the evening. Shortly after, our drinks order was taken, and we had time to browse the extensive and enticing menu.
The starters were enormous! We both opted for a mushroom starter, and the portion sizes were incredibly generous—each plate could have easily served as a main course. Sadly, before we could finish our starters, our mains arrived, continuing the theme of abundant servings. Once again, the portion sizes were huge, more than enough for two people per plate!
The quality of everything we ate was outstanding—flavoursome, fresh, and thoroughly enjoyable. However, neither of us could finish these massive portions, which felt like a missed opportunity to savour such delicious food fully.
While the food was excellent, there were a couple of drawbacks to our experience. The waiting staff were noticeably rushed, constantly darting around the restaurant. This created a sense of urgency that detracted from the otherwise pleasant ambiance. We also felt hurried during the meal, particularly when our mains were served while we were still two-thirds of the way through our starters. This gave little time to relax and enjoy each course at our own pace, which we would have preferred.
Overall, this restaurant comes highly recommended for the quality and generosity of its food. However, a more relaxed pace and attentive timing between courses would greatly enhance the...
