We have been regular visitors and even had Christmas dinner with you in the past. This visit was by far the worst. The old guy checking guests in was painfully slow, the queue was out of the door and the restraunt had just 8 tables seated (yes we counted as we were so bored stood there waiting for him to finish clicking buttons on the PC and tablets). Whatever you have done with the Yorkshire puddings is awful. My husband asked for a different Yorkshire as the one chef handed him was actually a pancake "it looks like it's been run over , can I have one that's actually risen please" well, me stood behind him got the roadkill Yorkshire as punishment I can only assume. I had beef and lamb but both were just grizzle and totally unchewable (yes I still have my own teeth so it really shouldn't of been that bad) husband had gammon and he left all of it as he said it was just jelly fat. In-laws had turkey and gammon which most of was left as turkey was dry and the same complaints on the gammon as husband. Teenage daughter LOVES the roasties usually but she ate 2 and gave in, in fairness I thought the roasties were the only edible part of the meal. Carrots were shrivelled up from the heat lamp, mac n cheese was brown burnt and like rubber, didn't have the stuffing so maybe that was okay. Gravy was cold .... the condiments like the cranberry sauce and mint sauce were fine so whoever opened those jars and put in a dish is definitely the most competent you have there. Waiter asked if everything was okay, husband said the Yorkshires were rubbery and couldn't eat them, waiter said they've probably been out for ages... that makes it okay then to serve pancake flat, rubber Yorkshire, inedible meat, heat lamp dried veg and cold gravy. After an £89 meal we (a party of 7) all left and went home for food. Such a disappointment. Never complained about food before as serving food in a big establishment isn't something I could do so I don't want to criticise others but this was appalling. We've visited Hoole toby carvery for nearly 20 years and although things have slipped in the last 2 years. This was the final time we will visit. Awful service on front desk, chef obviously was annoyed at asking for a different Yorkshire or just blind, kitchen staff are murdering your meat and sides and the gravy needs heat not ice. 0/10, would not recommend to anyone....
Read moreThis was our first visit to this Toby carvery. We went for father's day, me , my husband and our 2 grown children. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely girl whose name I didn't get, we were then rudly taken to our table by jolene who abruptly said to us " come on" which I thought was very rude, she took us to our table then shouted at our server who was called Tina, she then started moving tables and spoke to Tina very unprofessional and very rudely, Tina was very professional and kindly told Jolene that she had been told to put the tables that way. I thought the way she spoke to Tina was very inappropriate and no member of staff deserves to be spoken to like that. It was so inappropriate that I actually asked Tina if she was OK. I am a manager myself and regardless of how busy I am or how stressed I may be I would never speak to any member of my staff that way. Tina continued to take care of us during our meal. She was very professional, very polite and she is an asset to Toby carvery. Staff like that are very hard to come by so my opinion is that Jolene needs some lessons in how to greet customers and also how to speak correctly to other staff members. I never write reviews but our experience today and the way we were greeted by Jolene was very unprofessional and the way she spoke to Tina in front of customers was disgusting . Tina needs to be commended because her patience and professional attitude after being shouted at like a child was impeccable. Thank you Tina for taking care...
Read moreThe Toby Carvery is a nice looking building and from the outside it looks clean and very inviting. There is a big car park with ample parking spaces. We walked up the steps which lead us to the restaurant were we greeted at the door by smiling waitress who showed us to our table. Drinks and food were ordered, and as we came for the Carvery Roast Dinner the order was fulfilled quickly. We went on to opt for the medium plate of food, service was good and the large display of meats and vegetables looked delicious, great selection, gravy and sauces also looked yummy! We couldn't wait to tuck in. The Roast meats were very thinly sliced but tasty, the vegetables nice and Yorkshire pudding was very, very good. The children's meals were disappointingly uninspiring, the two sausages were very dry and the chicken burger consisted of what looked like two dry chicken nuggets in a bun, they did not enjoy their meal at all and left it uneaten. We did say to the waiter that the kids meal was dry and the children did not like it, and it would have been nice if he looked interested and asked if they wanted to choose something else but no he did not! Toby Carvery please remember that children are your future customers. Make their memory and experience of your restaurant's fun and exciting! I would visit here again because the adults meal was reasonably priced and tasty, I would also order a small roast for the children, they ate...
