Visited doubletree for the first time as a treat to enjoy the spa and a three course meal . Arrived around 2pm and the room was ready so we dropped off our bags, pleasant little room with two single beds, tv with standard channels and view to the patio/ gardens where the bar area is. We had booked for the rooftop terrace but as it was thundering and lightening this area was closed , we were then seated inside, no menu for bar snacks or nibbles, our three course evening meal was booked for 19,30 we asked if we could dine earlier but we’re told they were fully booked so we waited, we were then seated and waited 35 mins for someone to take our order- there’s no clear instructions to what you do- if you order with someone or at the bar, anyway a gentleman did come and take our order- and the girl on the reception area of the bar explained what was including in the three course meal- I’d you wanted the steak it’s £8 each surcharge on top of what you’ve already paid for the three courses- we didn’t even get to eat the three courses and my partner had already paid so we couldn’t get a refund or any money off for the shambles I am about to go into we were then subsequently charged another £20 for drinks when I think as a gesture of good will these should have been free! Ordered the sirloin steak medium rare, and the starters chicken wings and the leek and potato soup - both really tasty so we’re looking forward to the steak - first steak arrived- cooked medium rare in the middle but all burnt and charred on the outside, no steak knives so once eventually cut into it tasted like you were licking a dirty oven, my partner sent both steaks back and the lady had offered to get us new ones done, 5-10 min later next steak comes out, raw in the middle and black and burnt on the outside it was even worse than the first one! Disgusting! The meat station chef needs some more training- worth mentioning too that the bar staff in the afternoon have limited English and state you can’t pay my cash only card as they couldn’t work out the change! Anyway the bar staff switched for dinner and the 2 fair haired lads really did a tremendous job! Wouldn’t recommend that food it was a real let down. The outside of the hotel is nice upon entry it looks like a large stately home- some of the decor does need updating but it was all clean. The spa - the outdoor pool we really liked and the Turkish aroma room - one of the rooms wasn’t working at all - the aroma room - there were people with phones even though it states no phones, the pins don’t work on the lockers in the changing rooms, the robes are alarmed, but there is another robe in your room and slippers , most guests are just in their robes throughout the hotel, the relaxed atmosphere is nice, we did like that you could literally stay at the hotel all day , and on site rather than having to venture out especially with how the weather turned out; the location of the hotel is great too! Car park large so lots of spaces and enjoyed seeing the squirrels in the morning lovely surrounding nature! The staff are friendly and attentive - mostly on reception , the room service doesn’t work so you need to call reception and ask them to knock loudly on the door so you can hear them! All in all it was nearly £400 for a spa package, with a three course meal where I just ate soup so we then had to order a pizza to the room, wasn’t great, wasn’t awful. Slightly disappointed that there was so much choice for our spa day and we chose here , Chester is a lovely place though, I am unsure...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here on a two night spa break which included a treatment as well as access to the pool facilities on one of the days. Breakfast was included on both days as well as a three course meal on one of the nights. This cost us £510. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were very polite. We upgraded to a king deluxe room which was very spacious and had Elemis toiletries in the bathroom which was a lovely touch. The king size bed was 2 singles pushed together but we couldn’t really feel it. Plenty of tea and coffee was also provided and the tv in front of the bed was huge. Only criticism of the room was that housekeeping didn’t come round till 3.30pm on the Saturday whilst we were taking a break after a day shopping so we never had our room cleaned we just took some towels and water. This is better done in the morning really. The food offerings were ok. We had lunch whilst we were there. I had the salmon sandwich with crisps. It was a bit dry as was no butter on the bread and wasn’t anything special for £10. The main wvenong meal was lovely. We had the pork which was lovely. Just be aware for the packages there is a reduced menu. Breakfast was a standard buffet which there was quite a wide variety of. The hot food was a little lukewarm which you tend to find with buffet style breakfast. It was ok though. Location is great. Probably 10 mins from Cheshire oaks and which is part of the reason we booked. The spa was a total disappointment though. We opted for a neck shoulder and back massage which only lasted 15 mins max. My partner’s massage wasn’t even a massage, the lady just rubbed oil into his back. We were then taken to the relaxation room which was lovely however we weren’t feeling very relaxed so went down to use the pool facilities. On arriving it was so busy, there was a hen party and multiple groups of lads talking loudly in the steam rooms. The sauna was out of order. Some of the jacuzzi jets were broke, the pool was cold and cloudy and the outside waterfall area just looked tired and part of the waterfall seemed clogged. There were around 10 loungers all of which were taken, so we only spent 30 mins in there. It really wasn’t the relaxing experience I was hoping for whatsoever. There was just too many people. There should really be restrictions as for what we experienced we may as well been at butlins. As a hotel this place is great but the spa was a complete disappointment and was one of the main reasons we had booked this hotel. Have rated 2 but would have got a 4 if we hadn’t booked the...
Read moreI had to write this review in case anyone is going to expect a Hilton customer service in a Hilton hotel, which you will pay for, but will never get. Misleading information about prices in the reception , which you are going to pay for a lot more pushed by the staff. All the staff in any department. Staff in the dinning area talking between themselves and pretending they cleaning tables before attending to customers or taking orders. Completely unacceptable in a Hilton Hotel. Remember you don't have to pay the EXTORSIONATE service charge percentage in the bill which they pretend you to pay twice. Do not pay more, it doesn't cost even half of what they will ask for. Make sure you tell them you not paying that percentage ( you don't have to - per law) Greedy staff pushing customers to pay at the moment and making you go back to the room to get the card instead of charging it to the room directly is the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE you can have in any hotel. Imagine when you staying in a Hilton hotel. This is true. Is not a joke. Of corse you will pay Hilton price, and you should be happy enough to get a cooky in the reception. That's all you going to get from them. You will have to pay for everything else and when they tell you to pay. Absolutely disgusting and super under trained staff that not know how to treat / deal with costumers at certain standard. Our room was not cleaned after the first night , only changed towels but they didn't pick anything from the carpet and left the drinks and rubbish in the desk , very acceptable from a Hilton service right? Overall I would say their aim is to rip every customer off and to piss every customer off as much as they can, probably to get these reviews. I really feel I should of got paid to receive this awful service, the least they could do, is to give my money back. Or to get my time back to actually spend my money In a Proper Hotel with a proper Customer Service. By the way, is not family friendly. If you thinking in coming with the kids for the pool and amenities forget about it. They will charge you first £20 per person for 2 hours ( when all pools in Hilton Hotels are included in the rooms price) and then they will tell you they can't go in if they are under 16 years. All very transparent and great for the customer. Watch out with this place folks, you do not want to throw your...
