An excellent example of a medieval half timbered building. Located in the town centre just up the hill. On the ground floor is a bakery / sandwich shop, and on the top floor up a steep staircase is an old worldy cafe that looks like you are in a pub. The inside is preserved so you can see all the old oak timbers. The prices are cheap as it is a down to earth greasy spoon type cafe, but very good. I am not sure about parking as I came from Chester on the Number 41 Bus.

Rarely do I get to say that a place is truly great but this place is one in a million. The atmosphere in this very old building is just right ,it may have difficult stairs to climb for those of us in later years but it is worth every stair and the service & food served could not be faulted.

Went for an impromptu lunch. Parked nearby and loved the building so walked in. Upstairs is the restaurant, which all looks original. Service was friendly. Good menu with good prices. Recommend

Been here a few times now and I would definitely recommend it. I love the black and white building and the atmosphere in the café. I use a walking stick but with determination I managed the old steep stairs. We had the Vegetable lasagne yesterday and it was delicious 😋. The only thing I would change would be to add more meals for vegetarians and vegans, it would be so easy to adapt things like the cooked breakfast as there are loads of vegetarian/vegan sausages etc.. Also you could offer vegetarian sausage and mash with the onion gravy. Having said that I've still given it 5*'s because I love this place! 👍😊 16/01/25 On our return visit today I was a bit disappointed that there was no change to the menu with very little choice in hot meals for vegetarians and vegans and only soup on the specials board. Having said that I've still left it at 5*'s because it's a great place with a lovely...

Went today, first and last time ever, and purchased 2 mediocre, far from Harrods quality, Chelsea buns, 2, Aldi type scones and 1 small "Gregg's type" french stick. I know businesses have increased overheads but does that mean free reign over what they charge?, £9.80 for the above is more than a bit "over the top" on the price so I would suggest they evaluate their prices, perhaps staff attitude, and ACTUALLY individually price baked items or check someone hasn't got their "fingers in the till" to top up their wages in what is just a over the top, glorified countryside village cake shop not a upmarket gourmet...

Visited this establishment this morning based on a recommendation. The place was lovely and traditional and we decided to have a Coronation Chicken baguette. The customer service from the elderly lady serving was severely lacking and after spending £8 on 2 baguettes I had the audacity to ask for a carrier bag, to which was told it'd be 20p. I don't carry cash, I said I don't have 20p on me to which in short thrift was told "well you can't have one then!"

Great shop... poor...
