Shame this pub changed hands. We booked a christening with family that came all the way down from Wales for the big day. We paid £11.50pp for the silver buffet for 27 people including the kids. Should of been, Chicken BLT, Cheese and red onion, ham & tuna mayo sandwiches, pork pies, sausage rolls, crisps, salad, chips, mini hotdog, chicken wings, garlic mushrooms, garlic bread & pickled onions. Then we were meant to have for £3.25 per person 4 sweet treats, brownie, lemon pavlova, tiramisu, and rocky road. What came out was 3 trays of ham sandwichs a plate of 8 chicken wings for 27 people and then nothing for another 20minutes, we were sat there waiting for the rest while the 8 chicken wings was getting cold with everyone looking around the room wondering if they could start they then brought out 3 trays of sausage rolls, southern fried chicken strips (about 15 for 27 people), spring rolls, dry samosas cold chips and 1 tray of tuna mayo sandwhiches. By that time because I had to get my child something to eat everyone assumed it was done and had to pick bits with there hands as there was no utensils this was 40mins after the first plate of wings cames out. We had no plates or forks for half of the people and when we went to question if everything was there the staff kept shrugging their shoulders saying it was newt to do with them they don't even know what's going on. We asked for the manager and they kept shrugging saying we don't know where he is. I explained hotdogs, pork pies, chicken sandwhiches were missing but they just kept saying they didn't kow. I asked about the deserts we were meant to be getting but once again they claimed they have no clue about anything and they've been busy with the carvery. We said if that's the case we aren't paying £300 for that and 1hr and 20mins after the first plate came out they then brought out onion rings which was the only thing that was hot and kept saying stuff was in the back, we said don't bother everything should of come out together and we'd already ate with half of the stuff missing so don't bother bringing anything else you can keep the £100 deposit. Finally the manager arrives clearly on something saying so your just going to pay £100 for that and I said yeah. It was more than reasonable because what we got wasn't even worth £100 but instead of been reasonable and understanding where we were coming from he flew off the handle told us all to drink up get out which we did. He got aggressive with my friends and family when we were trying to reason and explain the situation in a calm manner but nope he accused us of just not wanting to pay. We all had to leave and cut the day short which was a massive disappointment. I even phoned up to ask him how much he thinks what we had was worth and was willing to put another £50 to it and meet him half way because we come here for lunch alot but nope he kept saying it was £200 outstanding because he gave us dried up samosas and some chicken strips which weren't on the list and that made up for everything missing, there wasn't even enough chicken peices for one each and when asked about the desserts he just kept saying it's a good job you never got them it's a good job they didn't give them to you ? But yet they still wanted us to pay for them ? He threatened to phone the police if we shared how aggressive he was been online as we have videos but we are sending them to the head of Marston not posting them online so.....£100 for what we had was resonable no way was I paying £300 for ham sandwhiches, 8 chicken wings, 15 chicken strips and 3 trays of sausage rolls. I think they just dug out what was left in the freezer. Staff had absolutely no urgency to get anything out and they might of been busy with the carvery but if someone is paying £300 for a service that's been booked in advance that should take priority over everyone who's just walked in that day for a carvery. Safe to say I won't be going back till it changes hands again completely ruined our day everyone was looking forward to. Wish we went the...
Read moreOnly given one star as I can't give a zero. I went into The Watermead this evening (5/3/17) and was frankly appauled at the service. Upon ordering food myself and my family asked for three medium and one large carvery. We were then told that I was unable to have the large one due to a shortage of meat, as much as I can appriciate that it was a busy Sunday night surely any establishment boasting a feature such as a carvery would carry extra produce for the busiest day of the week? However I shook this off and instead ordered the beef lasagne with a side portion of chips. After around 5 minutes my family were informed they could go and start collecting their food as my meal was almost prepared. In their absence a lovely polite young girl presented me with a beef pie instead of my order. She was very apologetic when I informed her that this wasn't my order saying "it must have been put through as a pie", perhaps extra training needs to be given to staff members who operate the till as I'm quite unsure as to how anybody could confuse a pasta dish for a pie. Around 10 minutes later my lasagne arrived although at this point I had already given up hope on the place. Upon arrival there was no garlic bread as stated on the menu, my side portion of chips amounted to a measly 6 chips and not only was the portion minuscule the quality of the meat was no better than a microwaveable lasagne from a supermarket. I would of happily consulted a member of staff about the issues if any of them had been around but there was nobody to be seen. Being in the food industry myself it is my understanding that a simple "is everything ok with your meals?" is a compulsary factor unless you eat in a greasy spoon? From my visit this is the worst dining experience I have ever had and neither myself or my family will be dining here again, my advice for anybody wishing to spend £40 on food is to go elsewhere or purchase a...
Read moreFirstly I’d like to start with the things we found good about our experience here. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite so no issues there. The environment was great, we brought our 3 year old and 3 month old. Our 3 year old loved the outdoor play area and the indoor cinema room and book area. So they were amazing! We also got asked if everything was okay with our food which we said yes but in fact I felt embarrassed to say anything as there were big issues with the food. I had already made a complaint initially because the cheese bites we ordered were £5.25 and there were 3 of them served on a measly piece of lettuce and placed in a small bowl .. not as expected and definitely not for the price. We had ordered garlic bread which I had asked to come as a starter and that didn’t arrive and came with the mains. I mentioned this to the lady serving our food and she apologised and said there was a miscommunication. The main courses looked okay on the plates - we all had burgers. The burger itself looked appetising but the meat on the burger was not nice at all - it was like a cheap frozen burger you’d buy from the supermarket. It was served with fries which were awful. My son had chips rather than fries and they were okay. What I found disappointing also is that I wasn’t given an option at the bar when ordering the food to upgrade my fries to chips or sweet potato fries (I don’t usually order fries as I prefer chips or sweet potato fries but I was sidetracked at the bar with my 3 year old) but if I’d have been asked then I would have changed my option. I felt I had to get in touch and be honest with the quality of food as it was very disappointing. I wouldn’t want to eat here again. Overall we spent over £45 and left feeling very...
