The very UNwelcome Home Inn!
Was staying nearby for a weeks holiday. Not many pubs within walking distance and we had tried the other already. Sat in the garden (which is nice) as the inside abit dingy. Bought our drinks and we’re deciding about food. Once done ordered at the bar and told they wouldn’t serve a table of 10 people meals as the group too large. Didn’t see any signs saying this. Said we could have 6 meals maximum. So again after much discussion 4 of us decided we wouldn’t eat (not ideal as breakfast was our last meal and this was now 18.30). We then decided as a compromise we could order 6 pizzas and all share. Great solution. Go to the bar and told we can’t have 6 pizzas as they aren’t sharing pizzas. It wasn’t busy either. We were the only party in the garden. If a chef cannot cope with 10 covers then either explain or offer a solution (for example 1/2 of us would have waited or our meals if told that was the issue but we weren’t, just felt like we were being a pain. We weren’t being rowdy and 1/2 the party were locals). Considering it’s a cost of living crisis and eating out is now bit of a luxury I wouldn’t expect a table of 10 be turned away. I thought pubs were suffering and crying out for business 🤷🏻♀️
Soo… we finished our drinks and left. All starving hungry. Not happy! Quite frankly it ruined the night and a member of the party’s birthday which was the whole reason we went there. If you just want a drink then go for it but...
Read moreBook in advance for Sunday lunch IT'S WORTH IT. They just do roast dinners of a sunday but by god its worth it. Portion sizes are small, standard and large. We had a mix of all three. My 6 year old had a small, my 12 year old a standard and me and the wife large with turkey/beef mix. I could have ordered both the kids a standard between them and me and the wife a standard each. Portion size is phenomenal the large is 3 or 4 slices of turkey and easily the same or more beef. But that's not all, the meat is EXCELLENT. Not an ounce of fat on the beef. I regret not getting the pork NOW just to try it. There is LOADS of veg. Standard has it all on the plate. Large comes with and extra side plate on top of the cauliflower cheese and parsnips already loaded. Staff are lovely too. Waiting time isn't too long either. I Shan't say anything about price other the VERY competitive. BOOK AHEAD we saw people turned away on the day. Photos show small...
Read moreOnly had a quick visit for dinner. Staff attentive but we was early many tables inside had been booked but probably due to it being the main summer holidays. As no tables inside were were offered a table outside. The beer garden was well tended and had a number of tables including ages with a roof giving some protection. There was a children's play area but didn't look closely at this. The food came quickly and was of decent proportions and as such was reasonably priced. There is no pretence in the menu but the specials board did have some more interesting dishes. If you want fine dining go to a more expensive place. But at this price point the food we had was decent honest grub. Overall I liked the experience. Note there is only limited parking at the pub so you are likely to have to park in the street...
