This isn't just a shop, it's the hub of the community in the Pennsylvania area of Exeter. The café has seating both indoors and out. There's a library and children's indoor play area too. It's even a music venue with a full PRS License, you will be able to see free concerts at one of the party events that the shop has throughout the year. Need some company? There's activities like a Salsa Dance Class and Art. Plus 'get togethers' for parents with young children. It's the home of the wonderful 'International Friendship Group' too, that does fantastic work spreading peaceful vibes throughout the community. As a shop you can get most things you need. There was no skimmed milk, so I now have a regular order for 3 pints, twice a week - awesome! Fresh homegrown vegetables, fruit and herbs are available for either reasonable prices ...or...FREE! (Donations are appreciated). There is even a full-on Post Office in the shop every Thursday afternoon, which is just fantastic. Please come and visit next time you are in the area. The Sylvania Community Stores & Café is a non profit making project, for the community and owned by the community. If you have any spare time the shop is always looking for volunteers too. If you can do anything to help, they would love to hear from you. All in all, it's just a wonderful place.

friendly atmosphere and really feels like a community shop. The cafe in the store provide drinks, pastries and cakes. Perfect for a lunch in a sunny day, or just a day in a cafe to know the neighbors. There are special events like fund raising, international lunch. They accept volunteers to help in the shop and cafe. It's an interesting way to get to know the neighbors.

We recently found this little gem when we were on a walk nearby. We stopped after our walk with the dog and kids for a drink. It was a lovely environment, reasonably priced and good quality products, so we ended up having lunch. Also some lovely local produce to buy. Staff were very friendly, and coped well with our noisy lot! Will be visiting again for sure.

This is a community owned and operated corner shop and café in Pennsylvania, Exter. It’s pretty great.

For Pennsylvania residents it’s fantastic to have a convenient place in walking distance to pick up that missing ingredient or chocolate bar at 4pm without having to drive a mile to the supermarket. The café is a fab place to meet a friend, bring your laptop for a change of work-from-home scenery, or have the kids play in the £1-per-child playroom. Some lunch options coming on the menu now too. The whole thing runs on community spirit basis - most of the staff are community volunteers. There’s a weekly cycle of meeting of groups of various types and occasional events with music and exciting food.

Overall this is a whole bunch times better for the neighbourhood than a for-profit chain store (or a vacant premises, which is what this used to be).

They’ve started doing waffles and ice creams to which is...

We're very lucky to have this community shop and cafe nearby. They have lots of great vegan options to eat in the cafe and oat lattes to drink in or takeaway. I'm often tempted by the hot vegan sausage rolls or pasties when I'm working from home too! Lots of vegan options in the shop as well which is handy if I've run out. Thanks to the staff and volunteers for a warm welcome too! Lots going on, we enjoyed the Christmas carols,...
