Wear Park Restaurant — Restaurant in Exeter

Heard good things about afternoon tea, so booked for Christmas Eve with my family for my birthday, my wife had emailed ahead and said that we booked afternoon tea for 2, but would be bringing children, one which would be eating off the children’s menu. When we arrived the table was set for 2 even though they replied to the email. We had to ask for a children’s menu. Before we ordered we asked what the sandwiches were on the afternoon tea, lady was very unhelpful and didn’t really know what we could change one of the sandwiches we didn’t like too, then when it come out it wasn’t even the sandwiches she said it was! We had to ask for our tea to go with our afternoon tea!! We had 2 other drinks when arrived and wasn’t once asked if we wanted another drink. The whole service wasn’t good at all, upon telling the lady about our experience, she just said I’ll pass that on, no apology. Had a wonderful time at Wear Park Restaurant. We looked around Exeter for Afternoon Tea and this looked promising. Plenty of parking when we arrived. The staff were very friendly on arrival and throughout the visit making us feel very welcome. We opted for Fizz Afternoon Tea for 2 people @ £32. You have the choice of Prosecco or Gin & Tonic. Each plate on the tower was delicious. Sandwiches, Scones with cream & jam (in that order please here in Devon) ending with the selection of cakes. On top of the fizz you’ll also get a choice of tea or coffee to finish off your treats. I was surprised how full I was when we finished. The food was nice but surprisingly the lunch menu was served at 7 pm, so clearly dinner time which later led to confusion with the bill as prices were apparently different. The staff were kind and offered to resolve the problem but we remained confused why the more extensive dinner menu (available on/line) wasn’t served. The restaurant was also all but empty at 7 pm on a Friday night which didn’t help the atmosphere.
