The Ship Inn — Restaurant in Folkestone and Hythe District

We had booked for 16 people to have Christmas lunch on Christmas day, and although we booked as two separate families we booked well in advance for them to know that we wanted to sit together as one big family but that didn't happen my brother and his family were sat downstairs and we were sat up on the balcony. The pub was very busy and we arrived expecting to have a few drinks before lunch but there was no seating area as everybody was eating yet they decided to open the pub to the public in my opinion the pool table should have been taken outside and a small seating area prepared, but instead we found ourselves sat outside in the cold and the outdoor heaters were out of order. We were seated at our tables on time and our starter came out at 3:05 but our main course didn't come out well around 4:20 and there were one or two items missing off the plate pigs in blanket but this was soon rectified when I told a member of staff. All the tables were set nice and although the food didn't come out to time it was presented nice and very tasty. The staff was very pleasant nothing was too much trouble and apologies was made when needed Santa even made an appearance. Although our day was kind of spoilt with not sitting together I would make a return to the pub a few teething problems that can easily...

Great fish and chips! The fish was so moist, fresh and tasty. Also the chips were exactly the kind of type I personally love- crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Brilliant location for dining outside overlooking the harbour and amazing view. The staff very very strict in terms of the covid rules - so I felt very safe and looked after well. The staff was unnecessarily harsh with some customers though who I felt very sorry for; however, luckily personally I received excellent service. The food arrived really fast - friendly and efficient. I had to take one star down though because the coffee was really bad - tasted like really cheap instant coffee and being charged a coffeeshop price for it is not acceptable, nor was I told in advance that it's instant. Unfortunately one of the worst coffees I've had out. The meal also missed the advertised mushy peas. I think my score would be lower if I had to dine inside (not really my kind of place) but luckily due to covid restrictions only outside was allowed. I'd be definitely back foe food though, but only if there's tables...

The six of us popped in Tuesday 13 December mainly for something to eat. But it's always the same, 100 miles away from home and you find a Battle cruiser you wish was only a monkeys yards from your front door. The blinding service and banter from the barmaid was so welcoming it's a crying shame we were short of time otherwise we might well of been there till closing time. There is a great atmosphere that is only surpassed by presentation and quality of the food we ordered. We enjoyed the Huss and the cod and chips to the point of empty plates. For a blinding experience like this you will need a big stick to beat it, great location, great staff just sorry we couldn't be regulars. Don't need to change anything, this is exactly what a good pub should be in our opinion,...
