Unfortunately I had a bad experience here today. It was our first time visiting and we were really looking foward to it after reading all the wonderful reviews and seeing pictures of the food on the website. I ordered a small breakfast which when arrived looked lovely at first but not even half way through I found a blonde hair in amongst my food, being dark myself this absolutely turned my stomach. I returned my food along with the hair to the kitchen, the gent i spoke to apologised to me and said he could do something for me. I explained that I had lost my appetite and I didnot want anything else to eat and it was fine. Not expecting to be charged for my food after not eating the majority of it and not even touching any of the meat I was shocked and angered to be told that they were only going to charge me £5.00 for my breakfast as if they were doing me a justice. I flat out refused to pay for my breakfast and took their gester as an insult. The young lady at the counter had a very disappointing attitude and lacked in customer skills. I was more than happy to pay for my drink as I enjoyed and finished it but I was not going to pay for a breakfast that I could not eat. The rude member of staff said that it could have been there through the manufacturers but this would make no difference to me or the situation we found ourselves in. She also said that the hair wasn't that long as if this would possibly make any difference either. I ended up leaving frustrated and angry which has now resulted in me writing this review. I feel this could have been handled better and been avoided if the customer service I had received...

Avoid the steak! It’s over priced (£22.50) for a very poor quality cut of meat that wasn’t cooked to what we had asked for. The sauce (£2.50) was luke warm and watery which I suspect was made from a packet. We resolved our issues in the restaurant but food should not be served like this in the first place! Our waitress was lovely though .

This is an edit to reply to the managements comment on my review. It was made known that we weren’t happy with 2 out of 3 of our steaks before we settled our bill. It was our choice to carry on as it would have meant us not eating as a family and it was a special occasion. The evening was a shambles really. Again, when paying a lot of money for steak it should be cooked to how it is asked to be cooked in the first instance. If it’s a good cut of meat from a local supplier then maybe it’s the chefs you should be having...

Lovely little place, very clean and well presented. Popped in recently to try a breakfast. Little bit of a long wait for food but everything was of good quality and cooked really well plus a generous sized portion. Disappointed that the sausages appeared to be pork & leek or something like that with no selection/option listed in the menu. Like I said it was a good quality proper butchers suasage, but not everyone wants lots of veg/herbs rammed in to the sausages. A traditional pork sausage could also be offered do choice, for us it did really spoil the whole breakfast which was otherwise really really good! Will come back soon to try some other things off the menu but probably won’t take a brekkie again purely due to the sausage being a big...

Wow!!! Bolters in Coleford is honestly my new favourite restaurant in the forest. It looks fabulous, the atmosphere is amazing, the service is superb and the food is to die for. When asked what my favourite dish was I struggled to pick one because everything looked and tasted soo good! An absolute MUST for anyone living or visiting the area. You can’t fault it. We will 100% be returning on a regular basis!

The black coffee was the best I've had in the area, a mocha another day was also very good. Eggs benedict was a little bland and the pancakes were a bit disaapointing - the blueberry and yoghurt ones looked much nicer than how plain tasting they turned out to be and the bacon and maple syrup ones actually had golden syrup which didn't go well compared to real maple, the bacon was nice and crispy though.

Oh my goodness, this place is incredible! We came in for lunch on the way back from a holiday, and ended up joking about moving to the town so we could eat there every day. I didn't know you could get a great Reuben outside of America, and the pancakes had us contemplating kidnapping the chef. Three of us ate until it hurt, and the bill came to less than £40! Definitely recommended.
