Kaplan’s was one of the best finds in quaint town of Lydney. I happened to visit it for the first time in the late afternoon, as this was probably the most promising open eatery in this town, and I reached it walking past all the other highly rated eateries in the town, to this place - probably the last of the eateries in that stretch.

The location, ambience, decoration and the menu - all impressed me in the first look itself. The menu had some good options of variety dishes and drinks. I went with the chefs special menu and Google reviews to pick my food and drink.

I went with Parmesan Chicken Breast & their signature Hot Chocolate. I loved everything about both the items. The hot chocolate had cocoa powder spread like a dressing and came with a biscoff cookie. The Parmesan chicken came with my choice rice, salads and crisps. Both these items were presented well, had a generous quantity and tasted well too. It was all worth the money (~14£ in total).

I also liked the fact that the chef took interest in coming to me and checking if I liked it. We had a short yet good conversation about the food. All the staff were friendly and hospitable. I’ve shortlisted quite a few items including the chocolate chip cookies for my next visit.

I’m sure that there are quite a lot of regular customers here for just the hot beverages - tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and I’m not surprised.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ menu options ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ value for money ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ service

Verdict: A must try place in Lydney. Trusted the Google reviews and wasn’t...

It's ok,

Coffee and hot chocolate are great so definitely worth a stop of for a hot drink,

The table was dirty but for a greesy spoon thats not unusual I guess My partner had a tosted tea cake and said that was also OK and we had some chips to share they where OK too. I chose mushrooms on toast that was a massive disappointment. Priced at £4.20 I wouldn't have it again, the bread for the toast was cheap and had gone soggy due to the thickness and the mushrooms I'm convinced where deep fried they looked and tasted absolutely horrible and where full of greese, I left most of them but wished I'd left all.

I didn't say anything as my partner paid on the way back from the loo, had I paid I would have said something. It was decided not to say anything and leave just not to return again but I will FB them.

I would say to go, just don't be lame like me and say nothing if your not happy, other meals around the room...

Went in for breakfast with my partner, had some lovely breakfast, nice little cafe with a very friendly chef. Waitress seemed to nit want to be there, bit of a cold welcome, ordered our food... but she didn't say a single word and walked off to give our order. Top tip for repeat custom, SMILE and be welcoming.

The more welcoming you are to customers, the more they want to come back.

Brilliant value for money, and great food.

Drinks took a long time to come to the table also, nice to have a sip of coffee while waiting food 😊

Definitely will be returning 👍

Just a side note: upon paying, an elderly lady was looking to pay also, when she approached the waitress, the waitress didn't even look at the lady asking where to pay and didn't turn to acknowledge her, she just bluntly said "pay over there..." and gestured with a flick of her finger 👉.

Strange atmosphere, almost like they've all had a...

Lovely atmosphere plenty of seating. A great range on the menu you can even try Turkish delicacy. Very good price and good portions. Had the breakfast when I went but will defiantly be going again for evening food or lunch. Only little thing negative thing I will mention is when I asked if I could swap food on my breakfast I was told yes belongs as it was like for like but when I came to paying the bill they charged more for swapping so bit of mis communication but it is still a good place to eat and good prices. (Picture is of full English. I had already cut the egg and a sausage but wanted to show how much you got) the fact chips was an option with the breakfast was a different choice but lovely. 😁
