Aroma Ryton — Restaurant in Gateshead

Went here last Wednesday for some food after work. The place is decorated beautifully and has a very classy vibe. We were greeted and served by Paolo for most of our meal... he's a lovely character, very friendly with a good sense of humour. The other girl working was also very friendly. We had half cheese/half tomato garlic bread, bruschetta and calamari to start. The pizza dough was amazing, light and fluffy and the other starters were very tasty and fresh. For our mains we had pork belly with vegetables and chicken and spinach risotto. Both were delicious, hot and fresh. The belly pork melted in the mouth and was cooked beautifully. We finished our meals with affogato which was presented differently than I've had before... I liked how the espresso came separately for us to pour ourselves and it looked good when it came out. We didn't think to take photos of our other courses but we wish we had. Overall a very lovely meal with very reasonable prices. Great, friendly service and a nice vibe inside (maybe lose the fairy lights), but I'd say the food was a bit middling. Avocado and prawn starter was decent (kinda hard to mess that one up). Friend's carbonara was bland--I'm pretty sure it's possible to make a carbonara taste of something with the right seasoning.

Asked for a medium-rare steak and got a medium steak--not very juicy at all and just a bit flavourless. The sauce was also very watery. Desserts were nice--again, kind of hard to mess them up. £18 for a fairly disappointing fillet steak was what bothered me most.

We kinda went for the £7 three-course meals, but they were Monday to Thursday only. Be aware of that and go for the cheap days, otherwise I'd simply go for the actual Italian dishes and save some coin. The prices in general are fine, just don't expect too much bang for your...

Called in here with my friend & her neice last week and had a lovely night. Great food, service and ambience. Very competitive on price but quality does not reflect the price in any way.
