*3.5/5. As far as Costa’s go, not bad. There is quite a low ceiling on Costa ratings - let’s face it, for a coffee shop, the coffee is pretty terrible - burning the coffee to disguise the cheapness. Cheap in quality only, certainly not in the price. I do find Costa, generally speaking, the worst out of the chains, which is saying something. What I will give Costa credit for though is their festive menu, which temporarily elevates it to the best of the chains, by far. The food / sweet treats are decent by chain standards though characteristically over-priced. In terms of this location specifically, definitely one of the better ones. Fast and friendly service, quite a lot of space, clean and tidy with the exception of the toilets but I think the less said about them, the better. The dirtiest Costa I’ve ever had the displeasure of entering. The cutlery I was given obviously hadn’t seen water let alone detergent so did not use. Tables remained uncleared the whole time I was there and the staff idle behind the counter. The manager was leaving whilst I was there leaving the tables dirty, sugar station looking like a mini bomb had gone off and the staff looking at their phones. Behind the service counter it was disorganised, messy and the staff who were I suppose trying their best need to be retrained. I like Costa but this place is a 0 out of 10 for what they charge. This is a lovely store and a very convenient location for me. The coffees are also always well made. The reason for this review is the staff and the cleanliness. There's always at least 3 or 4 tables needing cleared whether it's quiet or busy. The staff always appear so judgemental and cliquey with everything you order with a side glance thrown to a colleague almost every time. There's always at least 3 staff on but again the tables are never cleared and the queue for the coffee can build up quickly. The last time I was in there was no one behind the counter and 6 tables needing clearered, there were of course 3 staff on again but no one around.
