Waggon Team — Restaurant in Gateshead

Horrendous... terrible service from start to finish, with mardy staff who obviously care very little.

I didn't expect much, other than the traditional honest pub food you come to expect from one of these chain grill pubs, but waggon team fell far below my already low expectations... 2 burger meals ordered, one chicken, one beef and a side order of "grilled" halloumi cheese.. no mention that they had no coleslaw left, that only came to light after it was missing from our meals.

It was at this point that we asked about our missing "grilled" halloumi cheese... "Aye, it's not ready yet" was the response.

We carried on with our food and waited patiently for the side... 10 minutes passed, so I approached the mardy bar staff to ask about it again, who went to the kitchen to enquire as to it's whereabouts. "It'll be a couple of minutes" she said fleetingly on her way past our table, barely making eye contact.

3-4 minutes later the "grilled" halloumi cheese arived... you may wonder why i insist on using quotation marks around the word grilled... this is because it was quite evident that this cheese had never been within 10 foot of a grill, but rather had suffered its fate in the kitchens (probably frequently) used microwave.

Bottom line, chips were awful, greasy and had obviously sat in oil for a long time... burgers were terrible, with the chicken burger being the real villain of the show... the chicken breast was about the size of a quails breast, burnt around the edges and unfeasably hard to chew and with what looked and tasted like a god-awful cheese slice stuck on top.

It was noted that staff stayed well clear of the normal "Is everything ok with your meals" questions and also didn't approach the table to clear away plates until we made a hasty retreat back to our car... it's almost as if they knew...

I would avoid this place like the plague if I were you... on a positive note, my my pint of coke was ok......

I rang to reserve a table for 3 adults and a baby for 2pm. On arriving I gave my name and the server showed me to a table with 2 seats in a walkway, I told her the booking was for 3 and a baby she said it was made for 2. She was quite abrupt when speaking to me, I explained why would I make it for 2 when they was 3 of us. She did show me to a different table which was great. I ordered food at the bar and I asked for an upgrade of waffle chips with one meal, but I wasn't heard obviously as these didn't arrive with our meals.

I ordered a mixed grill sizzler, a hunters chicken sizzler and a gammon sizzler with a runny egg. Although the plates were hot these weren't sizzling at all and quickly got cold, the runny egg was not particularly runny at all. My daughter found something in her peas that resembled fish and when I questioned it, the same server was again abrupt and said it wouldn't be fish as they haven't cooked any that day. Her attitude came across as very condesending and rude.

The toilets in here are a tight squeeze and outdated, I used one and I couldn't get the door shut without having to straddle the toilet, literally no room between the door and the toilet bowl, when closing it after me they was about an inch gap between the two of them. Not ideal at all.

This is such a shame as I went to a different Green King bar/restaurant last week and the difference is like night and day.

Needless to say I was very disappointed with the overall experience and shall not...

This place has always been very local to me,.... only used to pop in for the few pints and a bit grub, which has always been nice. After having one nice meal, and customer service at its highest standards, I came back, and back again, and still continue to come back!!! Staff are always friendly, approachable, professional, and most of all true to them self's, good banter, and can have a laugh. Can't do enough for you,... humanity at its best! Everyone talks, even if you haven't met in your life. It's a place full of happiness, and laughter, a proper English pub, geordies at their best. Someone's party tonight, and the place was brilliant. Was absolutely lush seeing people enjoying themselves, and other folks getting up and dancing to the music. The disco was class, definitely need to have this more often, not just for parties, just a regular thing. It's nice to see a community getting together, enjoying life, and living their best! Staff even joined in too. It's what it's all about!!!! Food did not disappointment, and overall could of partied there all night!!!! Prices are good, cleanliness maintained, staff do amazing job!!! Defo need more disco...
