Nestled on the corner of Main Street, Hot Rod Diner revs up nostalgia with a twist. As I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, greeted by neon lights, classic tunes, and an ambiance that screamed retro-cool. But it wasn't just the decor that had me hooked; it was the tantalizing promise of comfort food with a modern flair.
The menu, a vibrant homage to American diner classics, left me spoiled for choice. After much deliberation, I settled on their signature dish: the "Revved-Up Burger." And let me tell you, it was a masterpiece on a plate. The beef patty, cooked to juicy perfection, was nestled between two fluffy brioche buns and adorned with crispy bacon, melted cheese, and a generous slathering of their secret sauce. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, with the tangy sauce perfectly complementing the savory meat.
To accompany my burger, I opted for a side of sweet potato fries, and they did not disappoint. Golden brown and crispy on the outside, yet soft and pillowy on the inside, they were the ideal accompaniment to my meal. And let's not forget about the milkshake. Creamy, indulgent, and served in a classic diner glass, it was the cherry on top of an already delightful experience. But the culinary journey didn't end there. For dessert, I treated myself to their famous "Route 66 Sundae." Layers of velvety vanilla ice cream, rich chocolate sauce, and crunchy nuts came together in a symphony of sweetness that left me craving more. Beyond the exceptional food, the service at Hot Rod Diner was top-notch. The staff, clad in retro uniforms, exuded warmth and hospitality, making me feel right at home from the moment I walked in.
In conclusion, Hot Rod Diner isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. Whether you're a die-hard fan of classic diner fare or simply looking for a taste of nostalgia, this place delivers in spades. So rev up your engines and make a pit stop at Hot Rod Diner—you...
Read moreThe venue is dainty and nice and very cosy. You park under the roof of the building and walk towards the entrance to the sound of American music as you enter there's a big American presence with a jukebox in the far right corner of the restaurant and the music coming through the speakers gives the illusion that the music is coming straight from the jukebox. Everything inside the restaurant is bright and bold and unshy. We ordered steak and turf and half rack of ribs with the prawns as a starter. Drinks was an ores milkshake and coke with lemon. The waitress was nice sociable when deciding what drinks l was going to have especially having a dry January she made some recommendations of cocktails to lure me but in the end l didn't cave in, I went for a coke instead. The food came out and it was a good large portion,I wasn't too impressed with the prawns as they really didn't match their description it felt all too TGIS wanna be in that respect even though they where seasoned well and tasted nice. We couldn't finish the food ad ad portions where amazing so we asked to carry food home. Was pleasantly shocked when the milkshake came with another cup of left over milkshake from the initial order which some places would chuck away or probably recycle and put in someone's similar order but instead you actually got to get your full make portion that was made for your order. That was a really nice touch shows unstingyness and a fairness eith the consideration of customers coming to spend money it felt like a nice consideration of people spending their money. Unfortunately as soon as we reached home we both had running stomachs which Unfortunately we linked the stomach pains to the food we just had had as a few hours later we had the rest of the food as we had so much and we both where in the loo with a...

It's been a few years since I last went to Hot Rod, so I gave it a go today with my partner. There were a total of 2 other table woth people sat at them, perhaps this should have been our hint to turn and run!
We sat down and picked out our food, I have no idea how they have lasted for so long not including fries with a £12 burger but whatever, surely the food is incredible, like it was when they first opened? Nope!
We ordered what effectively amounted to a cheese burger with sweet potato fries and a couple of chicken "tenders" with bacon & cheese fries. Both were meant to have a hash brown. Only one did.
The sweet potato fries tasted like they had been left to soak in cold oil rather than fried at the right temperature.
The chicken burger was a few frozen chicken strips, likely from iceland or sinilar, i swear ive had them on a spread at someones party before, with a small bit of burger cheese on top, no sauce, and no hash brown (as ordered) in a stale brioche style bun.
The cheese and bacon fries were OK but again I'd suggest that the oil wasn't hit enough to cook them properly.
The salad did look fresh but there was no way I was eating anyway at this point, not that our server would know as she didn't come back other than to clear the plates very quickly and didn't say a word to us.
At no point were we asked how it was, even when paying.
I used to love it here but have now removed my previous positive review because it's honestly dreadful! I'll never be coming here again and would recommend that no one else does either.
But wait... the best bit is yet to come, for these plates of poorly prepared, Iceland cheap range food that went very much uneaten. Plus 2 drinks, we were charged over £40!! You'd laugh if it didn't feel like you'd...
