Le Clos Jordanne, Le Grand Clos', Niagara Pinot Noir, Ontario, Ca, 2020
"A standout expression of canadian pinot noir, the 2020 le clos jordanne le grand clos from niagara's twenty mile bench is crafted by the renowned winemaker thomas bachelder. This single vineyard wine reflects a nearly perfect vintage and meticulous, minimal-intervention winemaking. Grown sustainably on limestone-rich clay soils, the 20-year-old vines produced fruit of exceptional concentration and balance. On the nose, the wine reveals pure, vibrant aromas of raspberries, wild strawberries, fresh plums, and a touch of clove. The palate is structured yet elegant, with ripe fruit, fine chalky tannins and a long-layered finish showcasing the precision and finesse of both vineyard and vintage."

I love eating at Michelin restaurants and the guide is my bible. Occasionally I disagree with the guide, but normally its spot on. Nathan Outlaws was without doubt a very good dining experience, and our host Josh and the entire team did an amazing job at making us feel welcome and relaxed. The food was very simple and extremely well balanced and seasoned. It was also highly original. Steamed haddock with swede, pickled onion and brown butter was a real winner and a very unusual combination. Its this type of cooking along with the atmosphere, wine list and service that put this restaurant a step above the rest. It also has a fantastic location and sea view (I am told), although at night time you will not be able to see this.

So why the four star rating?

It’s a matter of price and quantity; Out of the six dishes on our set menu for £140 per person, two of them were so small they were served together (like canapés) and were less than a few mouthfuls.

Normally before a Michelin meal (particularly a tasting menu) I won’t eat during the day, as so many times I have been caught out by an excited chef sending out course after course of surprise and signiture dishes. Often I will find myself loosening my belt to accommodate all the wonderful food and getting anxious I may not be able to finish. In a recent Spanish 2 star Michelin restaurant they served us unlimited savoury courses until we told them we had had enough. We got to course sixteen before having four desserts and sat for nearly 5 hours!

At Nathan Outlaws however we both left still hungry and the experience lasted just 2.5 hours. On returning to our hotel we both raided the mini bar of nuts and crisps and were surprised we were still so hungry. The menu was like six small appetizers, all absolutely delicious but tiny. The dessert was a single scoop of sorbet and a single profiterole and can only be described as more like a pre dessert.

There is no doubting the quality or service here, just the quantity and value for money. For £140 per person I want and expect more. At the Ledbury and Sketch London, which were both 2 Michelin stars when I visited, we sampled many more dishes and had far more for a similar price, and even more so for michelin restaurants we have visitied in France, Spain & Italy.

Adding a few more courses or increasing the overall quantity to the menu would completely transform the experience. Guests like me and other food lovers want to sample many different flavours and also leave full and satisfied. Unfortunately Nathans did not deliver on the full and satisfied.

If you’re reading this review do not be put off. The food and service is top notch and I wouldn’t have purchased the cook book had I not loved it. Compared directly to other 2 star Michelin restaurants however, it falls...

We had originally booked to come here in May for my wife’s birthday as we had been to Nathan’s fish kitchen a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was cancelled. I was a little apprehensive due to enjoying Nathan’s fish kitchen so much but it certainly delivered . My wife had the crab , apple and kohlrabi salad to start which was tasty but beautifully delicate in flavour and I had the crispy lemon sole with pickled vegetables and chilli mayonnaise which I found amazing, just the right amount of spice and pickling and both were generous portions for starters I thought. For mains my wife had the bass with bacon and nut dressing with mashed potato , the combination of the fish bacon and nut dressing were delicious. I had the spiced monkfish with curried lentils and cauliflower salad which again was delicious , very nicely spiced and cooked to perfection. As for the desserts ( I’m not much of a dessert person ) were to die for . I had the rhubarb orange and almond tart which a great combination of flavours and although sweet had a beautiful slight bitter flavour ( I think from the orange zest ). My wife had the passion fruit pannacotta , blackberries and short bread which could only be described as perfection on a plate ! . Service was excellent and all COVID-19 rules and distancing were followed . A great experience and view from the restaurant would have been stunning but no one can control the weather , it would be wonderful with a good sunset ( but we did have a good laugh at peoples attempts to park in the car park below ) If you like fish this is the...

My girlfriend knows I'm a great foody having eaten in many restaurants around the world. She surprised me for my December 50th birthday with a table at Nathans in my most favourite county of Cornwall in February. To my experience now, from entering the building, every member of staff welcomed us and, each one wished me a happy birthday which made me feel great from the word go. We were taken to our table and then the fun began. Amazing attentive personal service from every member of staff. We didnt have a dedicated server but, everyone who came to the table knew why we were there and, had a great knowledge of the produce, where it came from and, even though we didnt book the wine matching, we were advised on the best choice to suit our likes. Raw mackeral, raw scallops!!, I was a bit apprehensive but, it was an amazing experience. Fresh caught fish doesn't have that 'fishy' taste so, to me it was all about the experience and the textures. Amazing night and yes, it is expensive but, in Cornwall I've eaten at Rick |Steins which was amazing food but, Nathans topped the charts with the culinary experience and service which was totally personalised. My girlfriend is a pescatarian but was also apprehensive of the shell fish etc so chose a veggie menu. She tried all my food and said next time, she would do the fish menu although, her menu was unbelievably tasty too. In summary, we will be back in the autumn and cant thank the staff enough for their professionalism and knowledge. AMAZING...
