Overall, 3 stars. Unfortunately, this wasn't brilliant.

Main: This took a very long time to arrive, approximately 45 minutes. We had to ask the waitress when it's coming, and she said "There's a problem in the kitchen.". Shortly after, the food did arrive. Portions were of a relatively good size, especially the buttermilk chicken burger and rump of lamb. However, the kids portion of Fish and Chips only had (and this has been counted) 5 chips. For a bit of fish, 5 chips and some peas... ÂŁ9.50... really? A little bit too pricey.

Dessert: Dessert was of a poor standard. The portions were very tiny for their price, and the banoffee pie was deconstructed (literally... all the parts were seperate). The cheesecake was quite sour, and didn't live up to the talk on the town.

The service was decent... but not outstanding, it would "just-do". Nothing above and beyond.

Some recommendations...: Try the rump of lamb - outstanding Don't really have any deserts. Come being on a substantially full stomach! By the time the food would arrive, you'll be starving. Come with riches - the food is...

It's not the mediocre service... it's the awful, inedible food! We had a warm welcome (although the pub stank of smoke fron the blocked chimney flus above both of the log fires) and we had very cheap rubbishy Christmas Crackers on our table. Drinks orders taken and okay seating. The starters were fresh... and that was the only highlight (and I had the soup... which was probably reheated like the rest of our meal!). Pre-prepping meals is common in restaurants however re cooking left over roast potatoes from the previous service/ day in my opinion is a little tight. We waited over 2 hours for 6 main courses (4 Turkey, 1 Lamb & 1 Sea Bass) these arrived cold and gravy was thick and soupy from being under a heat lamp for too long. The pigs in blankets were burnt... with the blackened roast veg topped off an awful meal. The Christmas pudding was too fruity and mushy, brandy sauce was tasteless and diluted (stingy portion too)... single blueberry garnish and hardly visible icing sugar dusting... REALLY!! Improvement required... new Chef required! ASAP... PS never coming back (over priced...

Excellent pub in the village of Wraysbury. I was staying at a nearby guesthouse, and dining alone. The waiting staff made me feel very welcome.

The atmosphere was cosy (and I don't mean cramped!) and great for dining alone, couples or small groups. There was a function going on in the room(s) next door, but that was barely noticeable, so don't worry if a function is on when you enquire. Although the car park was busy, I had no problem getting a table without a booking.

The menu was superb - I wish I had more nights here to try other dishes! - with several seasonal options. I had the Trio of sausages with mash and onion gravy, with minted peas and shallots on the side. Very tasty, and excellent quality sausages.

There was a great wine list too, with lots of options for 'by the glass' drinking.

Definitely...

A lovely cosy pub/restaurant. My husband took me here, as he has worked here a few times. I really liked the place, a lovely drinking hole. Staff were lovely, the locals made us feel welcomed too. The manager gave me a tour, wow! Such a big restaurant and lovely garden too. He even showed us the teepee in the other garden, that looked amazing. Definitely coming back here. In fact my mum and dad will be celebrating their 40 year anniversary next summer, thinking of hiring out the teepee and having a bbq.

We stopped by for lunch recently on the weekend, after a very long time (since the pandemic) and was reminded about how lovely this iconic pub is…the food is excellent, service was really great, ambience is both “cosy pub” as well as contemporary restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus they are dog friendly and have dedicated parking. What more can you ask for?! We’ll be back very soon!
