So unfortunately our experience wasn't good. I booked a party of 15 people for my husbands 60th birthday. It started off with a beautifully decorated venue, so we were excited to try this out as was told the food was amazing. When we arrived our table wasn't decorated with one birthday balloon that was delivered for our party. We had mixed feelings on the food throughout the table a alot of the dinners ie steak and risotto kebab were un edible. My chicken liver was ok but but no dressing or side salad to go with it and the sea bass was nice but lots of bones and they forget to bring the truffle potatoes out with it, so I only had some asparagus. I had brought a cake in for them to bring out after the food, I hadn't finished my dinner and had to use the ladies, I was gone all of a couple of minutes, when I came back to the table, my dinner plate had been taken away and the suprize cake for my husband had already been brought out for myself to miss my husbands moment. I was so upset as to why they never asked me and i spoke to Olivia the manager which lied to me and said that everyone asked for the cake, but no one knew I was suprizing my husband with a cake. Then the owner came over and after myself complaining to him, his words to me were, well it's done now. Omg I have never had such a horrible experience in a restaurant like this before. Their is no communication in this place. And the manger dosent have a clue on how to deal with problems. It was like a circus in their last night with the fire lady nearly burning my husbands amd work colleagues ears as walking by so close. Too many things going on all at one in their too notice their mistakes. Their prices are high so which you wouldn't mind if the food and quality of service is up too standard and I know their will be teething problems but the attitude of the staff and poor management is appalling Hopefully they can sort it out as it looks high end but rather a circus. I unfortunately won't be returning and we are local too. My advice to them would be to visit others restaurants in the local area to see how it should be done, or better still take a visit to Taz restaurant to see their expertise. Your service and food that gave a few people from our table bad tummies dosent live up to the decor and in response from the manger, I did not swear at any staff, and left almost immediately after my complaint. I was upset as I was lied too by Olivia and spoken to with total disrespect when I complained to the manager. If I was so abusive to your staff, why did you "apparently" let me stay for three hours after, which we didn't as I wasn't happy to stay, we left at around 11pm . The complaint was half an hour after we left, yes we were enjoying the partys company before hand but not the service but I'm sure that you have cctv that can clear this up at what time we left and all the swearing from myself at all, or any of your staff. We sat at our table at 8pm didn't recieve any meals until 9pm most were wrong or taken back, which I understand you have teething problems, but the way you spoke to mysel was inappropriate. I have also seen on your Instagram page being mocked by yourself at implying that I am one of the the dancing girls that made your video. On my reation to your hurtful manor, you have now deleted your message and mine. I dont feel the the manger has any respect for woman and is lying through his teeth to save himself. And am disgusted with his behaviour towards myself as a woman. I would never ever come back to this venue and ive never been treated in this way by management in a restaurant. I am a well respected buisness owner. I eat out in Leigh-on-Sea most weekends and never I have had a problem. People can see for themselves what your establishment is about and I hope that you since have change your attitude towards woman. Unfortunately for myself as you have deleted your disgusting and degrading message that I can't take it...
Read moreJust came home after one of what is quite possibly the worst meals I have had in a very long time. I live just across the road from The Med, and have been waiting for it to open for some time so I was really excited to be able to eat there this evening. I got a table short notice and the receptionist seemed polite enough on the phone during booking and told us to just come in.
Upon arrival we were greeted by front of house, my coat was taken and hung up, and we were shown to a very small table right in the middle of the place with several other small tables. I asked to move and the front of house acted like she was going out of her way and it was some sort of issue. I had told them on the phone I needed something suitable as we had our five week old newborn with us. They did offer to move us over once we were seated and had drinks but we couldn’t as we didn’t want to wake our newborn.
Drinks came out and the wine was great. I asked also for a soda and lime and was given a huge amount of pure lime juice at the bottom of a glass which I didn’t know until I drank it and it was sour. The man that gave us these drinks looked miserable. Front of house corrected this but again acted like it was not her problem. She even told us it was the bars problem.
When the front of house brought out the drinks to fix the previous drink issue she held the tray over the top of car seat my baby was asleep in. At first I didn’t notice due to lack of sleep but other diners did and pointed it out to me. That’s when both me and my partner realised. From then our meal went completely downhill.
My partners wagyu burger and chips was tiny. More child’s portion size than fine dining establishment. We wasn’t offered any sauces, salt and pepper, or given fresh napkins. And the waiters needed to be told if we needed anything. My chicken shish came out chewy and with a strange flavour, again a small portion mostly salad on my plate and didn’t come with rice or anything else other than the chicken and 3/4 of a plate of not particularly fresh salad. The rice came out that I had to add on to my meal. It tasted like cheap microwaved rice. In again a tiny portion. The mac and cheese came out again a tiny portion, and the pasta wasn’t cooked and the top had a charred taste.
After complaining about the front of house holding the drinks over the top of our newborn she tried to argue the fact it wasn’t directly on top (it was) and was less than polite. They also added my shish meal to the bill after I had to send it back.
I got them to remove it. They charged us for everything else and we left.
We left still hungry, and with other customers also disgruntled by the poor service and food (apart from one waiter) and came home upset and made this review to make others aware that there are much better places with better food, portions, staff (other than that one nice one!) and independent restaurants to eat at than the med. It’s a disappointment and a huge shame seeing as it looks the part. It’s just pretty much every other detail was terrible.
There was one waiter that took our bill at the end that was clearly very good at his job, and he was helpful, honorable, respectful, and apologetic. I can only hope he gets the respect he deserves in the workplace considering the rest of the staff. Majority looked absolutely miserable if they wasn’t on their phones!
We left and there was another staff member sitting in the front window...
Read moreBooked this restaurant for 16 people to celebrate our Grand Daughters Birthday. Received a warm welcome from our waiter on arrival. The restaurant had requested that we inform them of people's food requirements in advance to cater for the number of people which was quite understandable. Drinks delivered starters served. So far so good, the waiter did seem a bit pushy with his regular trips to the table enquiring if we wanted another drink even though we were only half way through 1st round but I guess that's his job. The mains were reasonably presented but alas the taste of the food did not match up to expectations, I had ordered Chicken Shish which was served with plain boiled rice and a merge salad, chicken and rice was tasteless but I was able to spice mine up with a little salt and a great chilli sauce. I made a comment to the friends closely seated and they were disappointed with the flavour of their individual different dishes. We were enjoying the evening and company so let it slide. The then evening then went dramatically downhill. We had previously phoned the restaurant to ask if we could bring a birthday cake and candles to be be brought to the table, we were told that would not be a problem, after dinner we asked for the cake to be delivered which the waiter delivered to table candles alight, while most of the people sang Happy Birthday, we then asked if we could have a knife to cut the cake for our party, the waiter said he did not think that would be possible but would ask the person in charge, the message came back that they didn’t allow this. My Granddaughters father the approached the manager to point out that we had previously rang the restaurant to check that we could bring a cake and she rudely pointed out that was not their policy to allow food brought from outside to be consumed on the premises and apparently this was the policy of most restaurants, it was pointed out that her restaurant was the only one we had ever encountered who had this policy. This was despite the fact that we had a bill in excess of £700 and obviously she wanted to serve us desserts from the menu. Never have I come across such an obstinate individual. I wish her well but I suggest with an attitude like hers she might find the numbers might start the dwindle. There are much better restaurants around like Aspera in Benfleet and Bogas in Rayleigh both within 15 min drive that can’t do enough for...
