Don’t visit. Don’t order off the special Menu. Read before you visit.

I visited today 6th March at lunchtime as part of restaurant week. I visited with two of my friends and we decided to order off the “3 courses for £20” menu.

My choices were Parmo croquettes - Starter Rump steak and chips - Mains Ice cream - Dessert

I have never been so disappointed of the offerings I received.

The restaurant was not very busy but once our food was ordered it took an age to come. The service was so slow.

The starter of Parmo Croquettes (pictured) was basically just a greasy mush. Saturated in fryer fat and garlic sauce, I managed to eat one croquette before leaving the rest. Couldn’t taste anything but garlic and oil.

The main of rump steak was equally as disappointing. I was not asked how I wanted my steak cooking and when it came out it was practically Moo-ing. I called the server over and sent it back to the kitchen. I waited another 15 minutes and it came back out slightly more cooked around the outside but still dripping blood in the middle. I don’t mind a nice pink steak, but when it still is nearly jumping off the plate it was quite inedible for me. I decided not to send it back and left it. I did eat the fries which were quite nice.

After the mains were taken away it took another 20 minutes for our dessert order to be taken. I chose ice cream. What could go wrong with that? The vanilla ice cream flavour was nice but was spoiled by the lumps of ice in it. Clearly had been defrosted and frozen again. Apparently there was a choice of flavours of ice cream but was not offered any.

I did complain to the sever at the end of everything and the response was “sorry about that”.

Promoting “restaurant week” this is not a very good advert for eating out. Not only was the food poor, but the customer service was similarly lacking.

I suppose if you order off the cheap menu you are treated with less service with poorer options of food.

ÂŁ20 for chips and tasty ice cream. Plus an additional ÂŁ3 for a Pepsi

The team clearly don’t care about customer reviews. No attempt to contact or discuss the issues. Too big for the layman’s boots. ? Anyway. Won’t...

Beautiful surroundings, most serving staff were on the ball, a few you could tell were training BUT all were helpful and very pleasant. The place was very busy for a Wednesday night but it was restaurant week, so was expected. Food was £20 for three courses which was exceptional value for money the catch is the ‘extra’s’ we personally only ordered onion rings to share (£4.95). The only problem I had with the food was

  1. Starter Parmo Croquettas is described as ‘fried chicken, with bĂ©chamel sauce and cheese” in reality it was shredded chicken mixed with a sauce, no cheese in sight and rolled in breadcrumbs. I’m not saying it wasn’t edible but it definitely had no taste of a Parmo!
  2. Dessert was vanilla cheesecake served with a strawberry and yuzu ice cream. It came without the ice cream. Again nice but incomplete. The main and only reason I’ve taken a star away is the extra charge on the bill “surcharge 10% of the whole bill”. NOW this is marked as optional I know but how many people check their bills. We always pay the given bill and add our own tip again usually 10% or more. However on this occasion our bill we knew was £84.95 plus 3 alcohol drinks and 2 Diet Pepsi our bill was £121 and pennies. I assumed they’d charged us for an extra drink and upon checking the bill found the surcharge. At this point we’d put £135 on the receipt I immediately removed £10 that would have been a £26 tip had I not checked. How many people, especially in large groups check their bill? I think this practice is extremely underhand. We don’t live in the city where this practice is the norm and expected, it’s described as being in a market town. I dread to think how much ‘extra’ we’ve paid over the years at this restaurant, but it won’t ever happen again. TOMAHAWK this is a sneaky practice it either needs stopping OR it should be brought to the diners attention when the bill is given. Please do not respond stating the server should have brought it to our attention because we have been regular visitors since you opened locally in 2018. Also do not state it’s in the small print of the menu...

Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Tomohawks Steakhouse. We got The Tomahawk (36oz steak) to share between two, and a few oysters as a starter.

The quality of the steak was excellent. The sides we chose were the truffle fries and creamy mash, which were very good; the sriracha slaw, which was okay; and the broccoli in garlic butter, which was a bit boring and bland.

The service staff were very friendly and nice, however the actual service was a bit slow. Our first drinks took 15 minutes before the bartender actually made them, and then they sat in full view on the bar for another 7-8 minutes until a waitress brought them to our table. (A hot day + ice meant the drinks were a bit watery.)

Some small issues with our visit: first, when the food was brought to us, we were given the wrong oysters (there are two options) - not a huge issue, and we still ate them. Second, we also ordered a Stilton and bacon sauce for the steak - this did not arrive at our table, and was taken off the bill at the end. And finally, when we ordered the food, the waitress told us that the steak came with four free sides - this was in fact not true, and the steak came with two free sides. (We ate all four so paid for them anyway, but worth noting.)

Despite these hiccups, we enjoyed our meal and the steak in particular was top-notch. Melt in your mouth, beautifully cooked, the taste more than made up for the small issues mentioned above. The staff were also polite and helpful when we mentioned these issues.

We would visit again, and would recommend eating here - but be aware that the service can be a little slow and you may not get exactly what...
