Came here on holiday for dinner one day! We usually have breakfast from here but from now on we wont be returning for anything! When ordering we was not once given a smile or welcomed, which you expect from any restraunts/cafes. Whilst taking our order the woman behind the counter just left us mid-ordering and went to hand another customer a drink (despite there being many waitresses) and We were then told there was no curry, despite it being on the menu still. After finally ordering we sat down with our tickets and awaited our meal. Whilst waiting a large queue gathered inbetween and around the tables (they were all waiting to order) however the staff could have easily asked the customers to line up beside the counter instead of beside peoples tables, which would have made it a better dining experience. After our food arrived (it was really quick but didnt come all at once) we realised there was more of an issue than poor service. As shown in the images is “homemade cottage pie” however there was tomatoes on the top of the “mash” and the mashed potato had so much cheese in that all you can taste was sharp chedder, no cottage pie at all. The beef (also shown in picture) was on the verge of pink and due to the overpowering cheese flavour the meal was inedible. We swiftly left and will not be returning. The atmosphere was rather moody, all of the members of staff appeared drained and unwelcoming. Our seat was situated by a dirty vacuum, which for hygiene purposes should be kept in a cupboard. We was not asked how our meal was once and the music playing was reggae and house music, which was also loud. Definitely gone down hill as we usually eat here every year, but sadly this year was truly disappointing.

An absolute Gem of a place, stopped by for lunch yesterday on the last day of our holiday. The staff were welcoming even offering sweets to our two boys while they waited. A huge selection of menu options for both adults and children. The boys had Spaghetti bolognese and sausage and chips and cleared their plates. My wife and I went for the jacket potatoes with curry and chilli/cheese. Fantastic food at a fair price. Highly recommend, will likely be back during our next holiday to Scratby in October.

Great atmosphere, good cooking (feels like home cooking). Very good selection on the menu. Imo, the lamb chop dinner is spot on (in the photo, I decided to try the roast lamb dinner, which was good).

I have been visiting Hemsby for several years and now live here as a resident, but today’s experience has ensured I will not be returning as a customer. The chef mistakenly mixed up my order — which I was happy to accept without complaint — but moments later he came out to the table, confronted me in a very rude and aggressive manner, and insisted my order was not wrong. I had both the incorrect dish and the receipt in front of me, so his behaviour was not only unnecessary but also humiliating. Being shouted at in front of other diners left my family feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable as people stared, unsure how to react. Although the chef eventually offered an apology, the damage was already done. To make matters worse, my food was returned and no refund was issued — effectively leaving me out of pocket for a meal I didn’t even get to eat.

What should have been a simple mistake handled with courtesy turned into a deeply unpleasant experience that spoiled our morning and left me extremely upset. Poor service, unprofessional conduct, and no attempt to resolve by refund. Very disappointing, especially from somewhere I once considered a...

Tried this yesterday had jacket potato with cheese and beans however at first it was cold we let the staff know and they were really nice and explained that their oven has had a few problems so they took it back and brought us a fresh one it was a really nice jacket potato perfect for a lunch and there is plenty of shade for dogs, atmosphere is quite nice reminds me of a 70s or 80s seaside cafe, music in the background however is rubbish doesn’t scream British seaside music at all I mean it sounds more Spanish or smth like that than British. Wait time seemed to take a bit too long in my opinion considering what we ordered. It is cash only which is a shame tbh as some people don’t carry to much cash around and normally use card I mean it’s 2025 so they should really be investing in card machines however it is definitely worth the money paid, not the most wheelchair friendly cafe had to get staff to move a few of the furniture outside, toilets needs...
