I have been to Esquires a few times and never had any problem. The food and coffee are lovely. However, I went there with two friends yesterday, and accidentally dropped my cup of coffee. The cup was quite big and hasn't got the best grip. It spilt everywhere, one of my friends was soaked, as well as the table and floor. There were three girls on duty, one was sat down doing admin and the other two were behind the counter. None of them were busy, it was very quiet in there. One looked at me as if I was 'being a pain'. I asked for rolls of paper, and they gave some to me. None of them offered to help, I got no assistance whatsoever. Maybe I am being 'old fashioned', but if I was working there, I wouldn't have hesitated to help clearing the spills. Is that unreasonable to expect? I would have been more understanding if they were busy. They chose to chat to each other instead. My friends were shocked too. Basic manners go a long way. I gave 3 stars because of this, but I give 5 for the...
Read moreCustomer service is variable, one of the other comments here is right; often the ovens are switched off way before closing time so heated up food isn't available. In addition, at times it's untidy, with sticky tables and looks in need of some proper TLC. On one occasion I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and when it arrived, it was as if it hadn't even been warmed up. After being "reheated" at my request, it came back to me with all cheese missing, just a hot potato, I had paid for potato and cheese. Went for a quick cuppa at 4.05pm today and it was closed and in darkness when on the door it said shuts at 5pm. I don't mind this, but there was no note on the window to let people know what the opening situation is. This place really needs someone on site to ensure consistency of customer service in all senses, since at its best it's really good. Two new cafes have opened up locally, Esquires now has nearby...
Read moreBeen to this local place near school with my kids and mums meet up groups several times, I do like the location of this cafe. However, I had a upsetting experience yesterday which made me feel unwelcome there. I was in the middle of dealing something urgent on my laptop alone, a staff was hovering near the table repeatedly asking my order to pressure me buy things. The staff also claimed never saw me (buy things) before. It sounds as if the place only welcome people consistently buy things. Considering this is a cafe parents and kids often visit before/after school, this staff makes me feel it is no longer a place to comfortably take time enjoy coffee while spend time with kids and other parents. I am sad to see the level of service has dropped...
