Me and 3 others came to The Welcome for their lunch menu as we've heard Its relatively good. Anyway, sat down on the sticky table, ordered food. 1 bowl of chips 2 The Welcome Burgers and 1 katsu burger. Both of The Welcome burgers were pink inside, practically a breathing cow in buns. I took them both to the bar and told the kitchen it's raw. The manager who I believe her name is Hayley, was sat on a table near the bar and tried convincing me to say it was cooked. And said 'its a steak'. Either it was false advertisement or iust a poorly cooked burger. She replaced it with a katsu burger in compensation. Hayley then stated that the kitchen staff checked it 3 times and probed it to 85F. This is well below what it should have been. Also getting onto the Katsu Burger, it had very little curry sauce in there, if any. Tasted like a plain chicken burger You'd be better off going Wetherspoons. As we were leaving, she kept convincing us that it was cooked. I you're thinking on going, I'd reconsider ordering any of the 2 burgers. Overall, was disappointed...
Read moreFriendly and approachable service from people who obviously care about what they are doing. Menu needs some clarity though - we were informed after ordering that the scallops starter is not included in the roast dinner 2 and 3 course offer. This should be made clear on the menu; or at least before people order. I was being treated to the meal as a thank you so I was a bit embarrassed my choices would end up costing my sister more than expected and she couldn't really say "oh, you'll have to choose something cheaper" could she? So we had to say it's okay which it wasn't really. The scallops were cooked through but they weren't seared/caramelised on the outside at all - a much hotter pan required. We ordered a mix of beef and lamb but both only got beef. The roasts, linguini and desserts were lovely - clearly quality ingredients. The cheese platter was extremely generous and tasty. Overall, great food despite a few niggles. The front of house and kitchen are clearly very dedicated which we really appreciate as...
Read moreMy daughter and son in law were married on 7 July 2021 after harrowing postponements due to Covid. They were also let down by a couple of venues for the reception. I contacted Hayley with respect to holding the reception at the Welcome, despite not having a function room, Hayley was happy to close the bar for the evening session to hold the reception. My personal experience, that of the bride & groom and also that of the guests I have spoken to since, is one of absolute pleasure and delight. The buffet was wonderful, the staff were brilliant. I would like to thank Hayley, the waiting staff and the backroom staff whole heartedly, for a fantastic evening. I would highly recommend the venue for your celebrations. Of course, our celebration was held on a Wednesday, it might be a little more difficult to persuade the bar to be closed to patrons on a...
