Sadly not a great experience today. I will try and break this down to explain my review comprehensively so here goes..... On arrival there was a smell of dirty oil, I can reckognise this as I am chef with 25 plus years experience myself, the restaurant was busy but not flat out, we where shown to our seats by the more senior lady waiting on the tables on this day Sunday 20th November, when she came back to take our order I asked if I could change a couple of things on my order to which she barked if you just let me ask you the questions as we have a new system😮 We where a little surprised at her tone but as I work in the industry I thought it must be a hard getting used to a new fully automated system when busy, I am sympathetic as us more senior in our years can struggle with technology at the best of times... god knows I do. Part of my order was runny yolks on my eggs, not a hard ask for this type of a place to do. Food arrived very fast and looked great, I noticed my eggs where not runny though so I mentioned this to which the lady sternly said yes and they are!!! I said well let's have a look and cut into them both she then agreed they where not so took my plate away, my food returned just a few minutes later with beautiful perfect eggs👍 Unfortunately the rest of the meal was Luke warm at best and to make things worse there was a hair on my fried potatoes 😬 I was going to complain but my 16yr old daughter asked me not to embarrass her. I will try and be constructive with the components of my breakfast, Bacon a bit fatty but cooked well, Fried Scallop potatoes where fine, A good quality sausage for this kind of establishment and cooked well, Fried bread was cooked well but they use thin slice which tends to have no substance once fried so I'd go thicker if I where them. Fried tomatoes where two halves which are allway hard to cook right through on a gridle so where raw inside, I would cut into 4 thick slices they cook right through far easier and much quicker this way. Bread and real butter portions for you to apply yourself was a nice touch, Cup of tea nice and hot. As I said before though both our meals wher Luke warm at best. So meal eaten and the scary lady returns to clear down asking if all was ok, I politely said it was cold but not to worry, she barked back "WHAT" how can that be I looked up and at this point noticed the remnants of crusty brown sauce in the corners of her mouth, probably from the bacon sanny she had for her breakfast euch. She then ssked how can it be cold and before I could reply then said it's because you asked for your eggs to be redone, She then said they just re cooked the eggs but not the rest of the meal, I replied with are there no heat lamps to which she replied noooooo in a kind of don't be daft tone. At this point my horrified daughter was like "how rude is she" I went to pay another lady at the till who also politely asked how everything was, I told her about my food being cold she was extremely shocked and asked me how can that be? I must admit my thoughts where you tell me but I told her about the egg situation to which she frustratingly replied you'd think she'd know how to cook an egg as she cooks over 3000 a week. She said she'd have a word I said no noo it's fine I'm not after a freebie just letting you know. There is my overall review of Billy's on the road could of easily been so much better with just a. Couple of tweaks and more care, Please have a word with the older waitress about food in the corners of her mouth she was very scruffy and her manners towards her customers, who are paying her wages at the end of...
Read moreI found this one tricky to score. I've been before and it was fine but today was not good. If it was just today it would be 1 star but I'd like to think it was a one off so I've given it 3. The restaurant is nice with great quirky decorations and a model railway in the table. Its very busy at weekends so it can't be that bad. We ordered a banana milkshake, a glass of water, a cheese and tomato toastie, a cheese and red onion marmalade toasties and a bowl of French fries. The glass of water smelt of egg and wasn't very clean, the milkshake should of had fresh fruit and ice cream but was very runny and bland. I could hardly taste the banana. The service was good. The food arrived quite quickly but not all together. The chips were lovely. The cheese seemed to be really oily and tasted greasy. The toast was soggy and it left a funny taste in our mouths. Like I said its hopefully a one off and I would like to try something different to give Billy's...
Read moreI really love the food and atmosphere here so was really happy to see a sign saying separate takeout window available as Im usually in a hurry…confused as huge arrow but no open takeaway hatch so went to order inside after wandering around a bit confused outside…just wanted one coffee but took about 15 mins to get it…could see sit down customers getting theirs first which is fair enough but I was just blocking up the very small space waiting…coffee was nice but for £3.60 the size was pretty small…I really want to support Billys over Costa etc but this has put me off
Edit: I have checked my bank statement and was definitely charged the above for coffee (soya milk latte with no extras) so I accept this was an error which can happen in busy times and agree that their actual prices are reasonable. I will certainly be going back if the takeaway hatch is open (perhaps there could be an a sign indicating this is...
