Lovely country pub in middle of Houghton, a chocolate box Cambridgeshire village...and a true gem!
We visited this pub for a late lunch on Wednesday 9 October and we're delighted to find a quaint pub with plenty of restaurant and pub dining space.
The 3 JBs has a huge, nicely appointed beer garden with a separate (looks to be newly built (?) play area, covered patio with heaters & pool table, car park and lots of lush grassy areas for 2 and 4 legged kids to run about.
Hubby had fish & chips and I had a steak & ale pie. Both were delicious and well worth it. Several CAMRA approved beers and ales, with standard lagers, cocktails and a very drinkable Malbec by the glass. For a Wednesday at 1530 it had good atmosphere and the lovely Irish lad behind the bar, was a treat in itself!
Happened upon the 3 JBs by chance recommendation from an employee at nearby King of Belgians in Hartford, where we'd gone 1st (based on an erroneous Google description, stating that did was served all day at KoB).
Will be coming back to the 3JBs in future, as well as the KoB... Both rate highly on Google & TripAdvisor and we can certainly attest to the JBs' quality of food.
Sadly didn't take photos for a change, but I'm sure there will be some online somewhere!?
Both pubs have log burners (nearly a prerequisite for me during winter months) so will be back again...
Read moreHad high hopes but came away disappointed. Booked to eat in the restaurant for fathers day treat and was seated straightaway and ordered drinks. Waited a considerable amount of time to order starters and mains and was beginning to wonder if orders had to be made at the bar. Ordered stuffed mushrooms to start, so was shocked when we were presented with one, not so large mushroom each costing over £6!! Our son had whitebate which was ok. Had roast beef dinner, steak & ale pie & cajun chicken goujons as our mains. Goujons meal size was OK but they were overcooked and so spicy, our son gave up on eating them. The other two meal portions were tiny and we waited an age for them all too. Two small slices of meat, with two overcooked roasties, a spoonful of mash and a burnt yorkie on one plate and a handful of chips and a sliver of pie on the other. One dish of veg to share but was really only enough for one person and all for the princely sum of £12.95 each. Even had to go to the bar to order more drinks as no waitress came near us after serving our food. Decided to cut our losses and leave without dessert. Have eaten from the bar menu here before, steak baguettes, which were lovely but the restaurant was poorly lacking today. Would not visit again unless it was just to sit in the garden,...
Read moreOn a beautiful hot day, some friends and I decided to take a ride out here. Probably the first hot day this year, it seemed everyone else had the same idea. Having never been here before, this told me either it was very good, or everywhere else was full. It proved to be the former. The food was fantastic and good value. Fabulous surroundings including a super garden. Unfortunately, they had run out of the dish we wanted. Well, a couple actually, due to the "high demand, unexpected hot day". We suggested to the lad, he jumped in his car and nipped into Tesco just up the road for the ingredients, lovely garden, cold beer, hot day, we can wait. He gave as good as he got and I haven't laughed so much for ages. So we sat in the sun with our second choice, which was fantastic too. So go check it out, super food super value, gorg pub, lovely gardens and staff with a sense of...
