Visited on a Friday afternoon late February. Huge car park outside. Once inside we were given the option to sit in the bar area for our meal or move up to the Restaurant section. We opted to go to the restaurant and we were shown to our table. The place was very quiet and although there were a few people eating and drinking in the bar area we were the only ones in the restaurant section. Walking past the bar I did notice that it did seem to have an impressive choice of draft beers available. There was quite a wide range of dishes on the menu. I went for the fish pie and my brother ordered the BBQ Tower burger with fries. I also ordered a side order of triple cooked chips. We did have a bit of a wait for our food but this probably meant that everything was been cooked fresh. The fish pie was very tasty and piping hot although, for me, it wasn’t the biggest of portions. Initially I thought the triple cooked chips at £5 a serving were a little expensive but they were excellent. Really thick chips and cooked perfectly. Soft and fluffy and all of them cook evenly. My brothers burger looked a very decent sized portion and he said it was one of the nicest burgers he had enjoyed for a very long time. After my meal I wasn’t full so I opted for the white chocolate and berry cheesecake for dessert. Again, this seems to take quite a while before it was served, but I must say it was well worth the wait. It was lovely, one of the nicest desserts I have ever had. It was very rich and bursting with flavour. Even the ice cream was good and I was definitely full after this.. Our server was called Lois. She was very helpful, friendly and efficient. She told us a little about the history of the building and also the links it has with another local eatery. Based on her recommendations we will almost certainly be giving that place a visit. From what I saw of the building it appeared to be very clean and tidy. However, I found it to be quite cold where we were sat. But we were the only two people sat in that section and it was a shocking day outside. I must also point out that anyone in a wheelchair or with significant mobility problems could have some difficulties getting into or leaving the building and moving around inside. Overall, we really enjoyed our food. It is not the cheapest place around, but then this is a cut above your average pub grub. It is far better quality food than that and this is reflected in the slightly higher prices. I would definitely recommend and would certainly have no hesitation in visiting this establishment again.

the britannia is a lovely place to go for food and drinks. me and my partner went on the off chance and im glad we did. The food is excellent we was sat in a quiet little corner near the kitchen the staff were pleasant and the food comes quickly and cooked. it's a little pricey for pub food but this isn't your average pub food. but I didn't mind as its really good quality and well presented. would definitely go back here. its the 3rd time now but always gets better. last time was when pubs reopened for outdoor dining in 2021 the britannia only had a limited menu then but service and quality was still there. glad we went back like I said its only gotten better for us. they accept dogs indoors too. all in all I would recommend the britannia full and a happy service. we'll done to all the staff at the britannia. 10/10.

I had such a fantastic experience at the Britannia! The food was absolutely spot on - the chicken wings were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of flavour and herbs/spices and the côte de boeuf was cooked to perfection, tender and full of rich taste. You can really tell the quality and care that goes into the menu here. A special shoutout to Harley who was an amazing server. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely made the evening even more enjoyable with great service and excellent customer care. We are so lucky to have a local pub that’s balances professionalism, warmth and a feeling of genuine care so well. Overall, a brilliant spot with excellent food and even better service. We haven’t stopped coming since the pub was taken over and we’ll definitely be back! See you soon, Keith, Nicola and Emily Coull

Little bit apprehensive making this review, after seeing some of the unbelievably unprofessional responses to bad reviews but here goes.

We’ve been twice now and we honestly can’t fault the food at all. However, on both occasions we have felt the service has massively let the place down. Both times, on both occasions, we had to chase staff for the drinks menu as they kept forgetting and we waited a long time for our order to be taken. On the last occasion, we asked for a drinks menu and were told they will be right back with it. 20/30 minutes went by with no drinks menu so we had to chase the staff to ask for one. When we received the drinks menu, no one returned to the table to take a drinks order. Again, we had to chase for this.

With food, it does take a while to arrive but this takes as long as it needs to, not a problem at all because it’s been amazing both times. However, on this occasion, my parter ordered pulled pork on his burger which arrived with chunks of pork, not pulled at all. We did raise this and the waitress apologised for this. We must say, her service was actually great but she wasn’t the person we dealt with the entire night.

When food was delivered, we weren’t asked if there was anything else we needed such as sauces, any more drinks etc. which also happened during our previous meal here. Again, we had to chase for sauces, extra gravy, extra drinks, and so on. The staff did not appear swept off their feet on either occasion so I do think this is just down to poor customer service training as both times the staff have been young males. That being said, poor training isn’t a reflection of them so perhaps something for management to look into.

We raised these concerns with who we assume may be the manager on our first visit and he was approachable and seemed to take the feedback on board. This time, we did not see him but did explain at the point of payment that the experience was “ok.”

It’s SUCH a shame because the food and the environment is amazing but it’s massively let down by the poor service. The staff haven’t been rude on any occasion, just simply inattentive.

I would like to add that reading some of the responses to reviews on here has been quite shocking. As a business, you should be open to constructive criticism without responding so rudely to customers. Whilst you may be happy that these “bad customers” (in yours eyes) won’t come back, you risk putting people off ever coming in the...

Unfortunately we were left a little underwhelmed. The menu boasts to be high end food but l left disappointed. The steak was over cooked to my requested medium rare, dried out too probably because of cooked over charcoal, not basted towards the end of cooking in butter with additions. It was served with stuffed shallots (which were not stuffed) and rocket. The side ordering situation is very confusing and not many of them go with the meat on offer, making it hard to choose from. Id prefer traditional accompaniments and a choice of potato. Or upgrade to indulgence sides. The arrival time for the food was much longer than we expected about 45 minutes but the place was pretty empty. There wasn't a dedicated team member per section meaning service was disjointed. My sides came out one by one after the meat was delivered, far from ideal. No juices were on the plate. The shallots are still a quandary to me. My partner ordered a burger which was average and smaller than expected, the burger bun was very dry. We ordered another drink but it never arrived. I did mention the steak quality/cook to the manager who gave a small discount but I'm not sure that I'd go back. When I pay £100 for food I expect a certain level of service and food quality. I was left disappointed that I'd paid a lot for something I regularly do...
