Booked at very short notice and was accommodated which was brilliant. Initially we struggled to get parked but with a little patience (arriving in plenty of time) we managed to get a spot in the car park which is situated at the back of the restaurant. The venue is lovely and fairly reminiscent of a traditional little Italian restaurant. The interior is a lovely lay out, very well lit but still maintained a cosy feel. Only downside in my opinion was the music I would have liked to listen to the more authentic songs of Italy, rather than the 70s/80s popular music that was on. We were seated and offered drinks in a timely manner, drinks arrived in good time along with olives and some very fresh bread and good quality butter. Our orders were taken after being left to peruse the menu for the perfect amount of time. Starters: I myself had Funghi All' aglio. I enjoyed this dish and happily cleared my plate the sauce was buttery and creamy yet not too heavy, there were tiny pieeces of raw garlic in the sauce which though a tad unusual I didn't find it offensive. Starter 2: This was Gamberroni piccanti which consisted of plump Well cooked king prawns in white wine chilli and garlic with a small amount of napolitana sauce. Served with a side of salad. This again was delicious but instead of the salad ( which was disgarded) a hunk of good bread would have been preferable to mop up the left over sauce on the plate. Mains 1 : linguine polpette piccanti a meatball dish in a garlic fresh chilli tomatoes sauce tossed through linguini. This dish was delicious but maybe ( personal taste) a tad too much chilli. Other than that perfect. Mains 2: Spaghetti alla carbonarra. You could tell from the second it was put in front of you it was fresh , the dish was piping hot. However it wasn't made authentico but adapted to the British palette, after having a lovely conversation with a few members of staff I now know that I can ask for this making the authentic way ( no cream and using bacon not ham) . Which I have promised I most definitely would on my next visit. When eating any nationality I want authenticity. Anyone who has read my reviews know that usually I won't return if I don't fully enjoy my experience , even though I didn't really enjoy my carbonarra, my husband did and ate lots of it. I will on this occasion be more than willing to return and give them the opportunity to make me the perfect Italian carbonarra. The staff were lovely I could have sat and chatted all evening about Italy and Italian cuisine, it is a family run business which draws you in and makes you feel apart of it. They had a really good specials board and if I hadn't arrived with knowing what I wanted I would have easily been tempted by something from it ( lamb Canneloni). I thoroughly enjoyed my time here this evening and wished it had been longer visit. But I will definitely be...
Read moreAs a family of five we visit Casa Luli often and have never had a bad experience, the food is always beautiful. However, my husband and I visited on Sunday 30/03/25 with our eight year old and teenager for a Mother's Day meal and were left hungry and disappointed.
My Husband booked a table as we know how busy it can get and we didn’t want to be disappointed. We promptly arrived and it appeared there was some confusion over our booking, it was very busy so we sat in the bar area whilst they sorted out a table for us.
Once at the table we were given a ‘Mother’s Day Set Menu’ £35 for 2 courses or £40 for 3. We weren’t expecting a set menu as there had been no mention of it when booking or on our arrival. In small print at the very bottom of the menu read ‘or any pasta or pizza dish from the main menu’
I asked for a main menu knowing the children and husband would definitely want pizza, thinking oh I’ll have pizza too, it was Mother’s Day after all. Our chosen pizzas ranged between £8 and £12 each, very reasonable. Add our starters and we were looking at between £18 and £20 per person, £80 plus our drinks is what we were expecting to pay.
Before ordering thought I’d best double check with the waitress who I believe parents own the restaurant. We were categorically told No it was a set menu, we could order our chosen starters/pizzas but it would cost £35 EACH not the £18-£20 priced from the main menu we were expecting. I questioned this, thinking really that can’t be right? I was told from a now ‘stroppy’ waitress it was a set menu, set price. The waitress went on to say we have had over 200 people eat with us today and not one has complained, maybe they have more money to waste than we do!!!
We simply could not justify paying £140 excluding drinks for a pizza meal for four of us, so we left feeling very disappointed.
Why would such a lovely place put such a huge Mother’s Day mark up on their menu. We felt very hard done by in what appears to be a very captive audience. In addition no consideration had been given to a child’s option we were still expected to pay the ‘set menu price for a child who obviously eats smaller portions.
I’m struggling to believe we can not have been the only family who felt this way.
Shame on you...
Read moreMyself and 2 friends visited for the first time Casa Luli. On entering and going to the bar I told the older lady we were booked but she couldnt find our booking we were left standing like lemons wondering what was going on . No one spoke to us letting us know what was going on. I am giving 5 stars for the food . It was excellent !!!!. I am giving NO stars or good review for the service. Table booked for 7pm it was one hour and 10 minutes before we got our starter . Then 35 minutes for the main course . One of which was wrong and the starter of Mussels was served with 7 closed mussels (not good). We had to constantly ask where our food was . We were told that a chef hadn't come to work that night and they were under pressure which was very obvious . People were being served before us that came in after us . We were sat at an open door with a fan on . This night was not the best dining experience. It was the first time since before the pandemic that we had been out together it was a birthday treat for one of our party. The waitresses did their best in a bad situation . There was no hospitality etiquette at all . More training would be advised to teach staff how to respond to angry diners in this type of situation . 2 of this party have spent over a combined 40 years in the hospitality trade and catering. We knew what it was like to be under pressure . We asked to see the 'manager' ( the older lady at reception)she was quite rude no sincere apology was more interested in what we thought of the food. Which was excellent !!!!. But I would not recommend this place on a Saturday night when staff don't turn...
