I came here spur of the moment with my mam last week. I'd heard of this place and never heard a bad thing. I already knew it was a fancy place to dine and drink... as this was a spur of the moment choice for a lunch date, we weren't overly dressed for the occasion but surprisingly we're treat the same as everyone else. The first young man who greeted us and took us upstairs for a table was adorable, infact, all the staff male and female were very aesthetically pleasing and lovely! We were the 1st party to sit upstairs but it didn't seem too much trouble for the man seating us, even though we hadn't booked. He turned on lights and set the bar up, made it all lovely...and it really is beautiful upstairs! Left us with menu's and took our drink order swiftly. We were soon followed by a few more parties so the place wasn't as bare. I was impressed with the menu, although couldn't help but to howl at one of the choices name! So, mam had a lemonade and I had a pink gin and lemonade. He double checked it was lemonade I asked for not tonic, always a bonus when waiters do this!! Wasn't long before our food arrived and wow, it looked great! Served uniquely and just had that edge that made it look pretty cool. Mam had the lemon and garlic hanging kebab, chips and salad. It came with the skewer of meat literally hanging on a metal skewer over the chips. I had the chicken tikka version. You also had a choice of garlic butter or sweet chilli sauce too. And it came with other dips that were complimenting also. The price is what I would have expected for a place like that and both the food and service was spot on. All in all I couldn't spot a fault. They even had baby changing which is a bonus when you have a little one in tow which we did. And I liked the rolled up individual flannels in the bathrooms to dry your hands on. I will definitely be returning with my partner soon! It's a new favourite. (This was the Fenay Bridge...
Read moreI'm not particularly au fait with the local eaterys of Huddersfield other than the 3 Acres and a handful of other locations.
It feels like this is somewhere in the middle. Its not quite at that level yet but its a fair starting point.
To start I had the hot buffalo wings with a blue cheese sauce, now these were decent and reminded me of the ones they used to serve in Cattlegrid (Leeds).
Wings were very tastey and the blue cheese dip was what I was hoping for. My only criticism would be the finish on the wings sometimes you need that skin crisping up a bit more nevertheless still decent.
For the main I had the sunday dinner sharer with my partner. Now this was not bad but it was the main let down, the veg was cooked beautifully and the presentation was excellent. Sadly two major components of the dinner were what pulled down the experience for me.
The Yorkshire puddings are simply incorrect. Firstly they appear to look like a pork pie but sadly they are far too dense, a bit tough and not light enough. If I were the chef i'd reconsider this closely.
My other criticism would be the beef. I don't mind a bit of fat however I think eaterys need to be more considerate when serving medium cooked like this. It was too fatty and had that sinewy vibe when chewing it.
When serving roast beef on the medium side you need to make sure the cut of beef is suitable for this, poorer cuts should really be cooked thoroughly through to prevent this outcome.
Jam roly poley tasted like it was a frozen bought in dessert from my perspective accompanied with a ok custard.
Staff were actually super nice really attentive and possibly some of the best i've been served by in recent months so well done to their team
For an aspiring restaurant/bar of this kind if it wants to move into the upper echelon it needs some work on the execution of...
Read moreWe arrived at the pub at 7.45 and attempted to sit in a window seat but were " told these tables were reserved " by the waitress. Then a few seconds later some other people arrived and were told "sit where you like". (Obviously brown people don't look good in the window seats, gives a poor impression). We orderd a vegetarian and calzone pizza about 5 minutes after arrival. The pub was relatively empty so we expected the food would arrive fairly quickly. After waiting 35 minutes we asked the waitress how much longer would we need to wait. She returned after speaking to the kitchen and said the food would be out in 10 minutes. 20 minutes later we spoke to the manager asking about the delay. He went to the kitchen and when he returned said our order had been mispalced and they will make the pizzas now. All the customer who had arrived after were already eating. As we had waited so long we decided to stay. At 9.20 our pizzas arrived. The vegetarian one looked fine but the calzone was excessively covered in a tomato sauce. I cut a corner of the crust and it was crisp on the outside but under cooked in the middle. I preceded to cut further into the pizza and it tasted burnt, very burnt. I started to remove some of the tomato sauce which covered the pizza. The sauce was there to clearly disguise the burnt top. I turned the calzone over and it was completely black on the base totally burnt. I called the manager over and told him the pizza was burnt. He asked " Does it taste nice though". I couldn't help but laugh and told him "It tastes burnt" . He said he would not charge for the burnt one. We left the premises feeling like second...
