Our first visit to Lu's Place, what a fabulous impression as we approached the building & parked in your plentiful convenient car park. Your Terrace, decor & even the doggy water facility looked so well thought out, so we were looking forward to an enjoyable experience.. I'd booked an early Mothers Day treat for my step mum who unfortunately has dementia but loves to eat out. The young lady waiting to greet us near the entrance was friendly and quickly showed us to our table for two. It's begins to be disappointing from then on :- Our table was less than 50cms away from the next table where two other ladies were lunching. My stepmum looked a little concerned & whilst I appreciate we had booked a "slot", other tables were available but not offered. We were quickly introduced to the "Specials" menu, along with the regular menues, one of which fell to bits, then our drinks order was taken shortly after. Our drinks were served by a nice young lady, a lime & soda had become a lime cordial and whilst the tea came with a lovely teapot, cup & saucer, with a small milk churn, & Yorkshire tea, sugar wasn't offered or brought with the drink. Thereafter the time taken to take our food order was a wait and the eventual serving of our food was much longer. Not sure if this prompts other customers to order more drinks but we didn't want any. Conversation between the 2 "close" tables was audible and not private at all, plus the draught from the door to the entrance and the entrance to the terrace was chilly.
The food? Paninis with fries & a side salad were basic but tasty. However a panini, cheese, ham, fries & side salad don't feel like a substantial meal, which I'd expect for nearly £15 and when the bill comes to £40+ inclusive of a service charge, I want to feel like I have had the service that warrants a charge without me being asked. The young lady waitresses had a lot to do so it's quite understandable that a few things might have been missed, and although she did ask if we needed any more condiments & if everything was ok, I politely said "yes", although my stepmother was trying to cut a panini with the knife and fork we'd had set out & was really struggling. I tried to explain to her why the knife & fork were there, for the salad & fries, but due to her illness she soldiered on, only to leave most of her meal & ask to go for fish n chips next time. I'm afraid we won't be calling back for the fish finger sandwich. I feel that the decor, including the giraffes bottom facing me on my left, together with the prices, would fit better with a more explorative menu & an extra staff member or...
Read moreLets get it out there straight away the food was nice and the staff are very polite. The premises are beautiful and well thought out (maybe a porch at the entrance will be needed in winter to stop cold gales from the door into the immediate seating area). There are a few issues unfortunately but it is a new business and hopefully still finding it's feet. We booked a table for two people at 12:45. Like others will say this is important due to it being extremely popular, that said it took 5 minutes before we were seated. It took 20 minutes from being seated before we were asked if we wanted a drink. We had to tell the waitress we were also booked in for lunch and then gave our food order at the same time. It was 13:30 before the drinks arrived and the food 5 minutes later. Well aware that we apparently have to vacate the table by 14:15 it made for a rushed lunch without the time to really enjoy any of the sweets on offer so non were ordered. I find it really odd how there are so many waitressing staff but the service is so slow. No one seems to be in charge, has experience or able to recognise people sat with menus but no food or drinks orders taken for such a long period. As a comparison I attended Yummie Yorkshire with 3 friends for lunch 2 days previous. I noticed one of my friends arriving as I was parking my car. By the time I had got to my seat she already had a drink. I had my drink in front of me by the time the other 2 arrived several minutes later. This was possible by simply asking as I was seated if I would like a drink or some time to look at the menu. With any new business there are going to be teething problems as it finds it's feet. This is something that needs to happen quickly and I genuinely wish the business well as having little gems on your doorstep boosts the area for everyone . We will visit again in a few months and hopefully I will be able to...
Read moreWent for breakfast for my birthday and was quite excited had heard good things and followed them on Instagram saw some really great things so I had high hopes! Lovely food unbelievably fresh and hot everything we had can not fault the food and doubt anyone would be disappointed! However what really disappointed me was the service. Although we booked a good month in advance we were then sat the first table as you walk in before sitting down I asked if we could sit in the glass part and was told no despite there been empty reserved tables in there too not sure why they couldn’t swap our reserved table of 4? We were also left stood ages whilst they delivered food to other tables. Didn’t really get any courtesy checks on our table and we were in and out within 45 mins pretty much finished my food put my fork out and plate was taken when I said I was okay didn’t want to order anything else we were presented with the bill and felt we were wanted to pay and go which was a shame given we had driven over 40 minutes to go would have been nice to let our food settle. Food great decor in the glass part of restaurant lovely and outside cool pod I understand you can hire and lovely blankets on the outdoor seats all branded someone really cares about experience at that restaurant to give the little touches just needs the service fine...
