I attended the Meltham Balti, on recommendation, with a group of chaps for our monthly curry club meal. As a restaurant it is not particularly large and can be somewhat noisy when all tables are occupied. However it has a friendly atmosphere and the staff very accommodating. We were a group of ten and had to pay a deposit when booking in advance, recommended due to it's size. (Necessary because if you fail to go it can be costly to the restaurant). If you want alcohol- take your own, they will provide glasses if required. The appetiser, poppodum with 4 sauces - very nice. Starter, I had a mixed kebab platter with salad garnish, it was sufficient for me, but a little bland - average overall. Main Course for me was Murgh Masala with mushroom pilau rice, spices less than medium, plenty of sauce (appeared somewhat coloured) little short on meat content, overall view - fair to middling. The rice plenty of it and very tasty - rating very good. I don't eat puddings etc so no comment there. Cost overall very reasonable. In conclusion, a good night out, the meal, average...
Read moreVery bizarre service experience, I dine alone and have done for 6 years after a separation and have enjoyed great service from many establishments in that time, Meltham Balti is one of those place I have not! I was treated fairly rudely, almost like I was taking up a table for 2! I was put in a small room no bigger than my bathroom facing a wall, when I said I wanted to sit in the main room I was told no you have to sit in here, when I went to pay I was rudely told to sit back at my table! I have never been treated like this, I do not drink alcohol so wasn't drunk im respectful and dress very well so it wasn't like I looked untoward.. I have been treated like a king at the other Restaurant in the village and I dine out every week there, I thought I would try Meltham Balti but I will not step foot in there ever again shocking front of house staff towards...
Read moreA very awkward experience ... when we were seated we noticed that none of the waiting staff were wearing masks. When we asked a member of the staff, he looked very confused at why we were asking the question. Their response was that they were in line with government guidelines and masks were not necessary. The gov guidelines state they recommend all restaurant staff to continue to use face coverings. We are frequent local customers and this disregard for customer safety made us very uncomfortable. The tables were all full and no extra spacing was made to prevent close contact. No doors were opened to improve airflow. We won’t be returning to Meltham Balti until after the pandemic ... no food is worth...
