Filled the spot Decided to try Merrie England in Oakes When I arrived the car park (arrived 10:45am) was chaos - didn’t realise they did a drive through and there was a queue from the road into the car park . Found a car parking spot and went inside. Loads of places to sit and as I approached the counter the assistant provided a menu I was a little disappointed as I was really wanting an all day breakfast - I thought it was the kind of place that did that! So I opted for the breakfast bun - sausage, bacon, egg, tomato and mushroom. When it arrived I needed a knife and fork -they’d only provided a knife - so had to queue to get a fork The contents were cold and the bacon was too hard to cut or chew So didn’t bother finishing it as I want enjoying it Started on my bannoffee pie Base rock hard but topping delicious - guess you can’t have everything! Not sure I’d be in a hurry to come back

Me and my husband have used this place for years, we have always experienced pleasant service, great sandwiches. However, over the last few times we have been it has been half hour wait even when it's not busy and today we ordered prawn salad on brown and plain roast beef on white that is not what we received even though it states that on the ticket It's just gone down in customer service and due care and attention to what customers want. We will sadly not be back.

Always love coming here for a lunch time treat. A lot more staff on today when I popped in with my mum at 11:30 Monday when the kids had returned to school so the wait for my chicken sandwich wasn't very long today. Coffee and food is still good šŸ‘. Thank you 😊

The staff here are lovely as always, and it’s a nice touch that they remember familiar faces. It seems there are new owners now, so this feedback is really aimed at you: please take a serious look at the quality of your food and how the drive-through is being run.

I’ve been coming here for years—we used to save our dinner money just to treat ourselves to a Friday butty. In the past I’ve even travelled up from London and taken a BLT back down with me! But the quality lately has become so poor I felt I had to say something.

Keeping the drive-through is a brilliant idea and you're in a perfect location for it, but the setup just isn’t working, especially at weekends. One person running the window and making the sandwiches (because it's also busy inside) on a busy Saturday or Sunday morning leads to long waits and flustered staff. A 30-minute wait for a below-average sandwich isn’t acceptable. You need to review your operations or at least put up a waiting time notice so people can decide whether it’s worth it.

Honestly, the town centre cafes are miles better. It doesn’t make sense that the same butty tastes completely different depending on the location—that’s a consistency issue. I don't think with how it's made but with the produce used.

Please don’t let your long-standing customers down. We’d love to keep supporting you, but you...

January 2024 - In the past 4 years we have visited every weekend. The prices have soared and the service has shrunk!. I have stood in the queue for 20 minutes on several occasions but the quality and quantity of the sandwich fillings and the desserts have generally made it worthwhile. Today, however there was the usual 20 minute queue but the sandwich fillings were noticeably less generous. Also the reward scheme has been changed to a free drink for every 10 bought (previously 8) - and, annoyingly you pay for the "free" drink if you order large because you only get a "free" small drink. This is despite the fact that we always buy large! This is pettiness to the lowest degree!!! .............................................. June 2018 - We called for a drink while taking my baby granddaughter for a walk in her pram. We had coffee, beef sandwich scone and cheesecake - all delicious. The staff were also very helpful in providing a high chair and several slices of cucumber which my granddaughter sucked and chomped with relish. Not the cheapest place but really nice. The staff...

Bacon butties were not good, the bread was toasted and therefore dry (who has toasted bread for a bacon buttie?) and it wasn't even buttered, again, who has a bacon buttie without butter?!

Expensive too, £3.65 for a dried out bacon buttie. Couldn't finish it, too dry and powdery, waste of money.

1 star given for an average amount of bacon.

EDIT: The turkey clubs are usually pretty good if they follow your instructions as to what bread type etc, but the service is ridiculous. You have to wait absolutely ages to be served or to get your order. I think these guys must live in the stone age, just like the decor.

One time I placed my order, parked up and they just didn't come out with it. Several customers came and went after me and I kept thinking I'll be next, I'll be next, but eventually I thought I need to go tell them. They had lost the order! No good when I'm in-between jobs and on limited time for my lunch break. Don't bother if you...
