With family members and friends I have used The Coffee Lounge several times, particularly because it is near to home and it is dog friendly, which means I can have my lovely rehomed greyhound with me. It has to be said, it is very popular, especially with ladies it seems and I have found it always very busy between 12:00 and 14:00 particularly and expectedly.
My main criticism though is that although one can reserve a table for three diners and more, a reservation for just two diners cannot be made. If one is wanting to dine with a friend who may have driven a considerable distance, a prolonged wait for an available table can be quite irksome.
At ground floor level there are only a limited numbers of tables and although upstairs there is a lot more accommodation, the stairs to that floor are steep and with high risers. Ascending isnāt too difficult but for the elderly and perhaps less mobile, Iām sure that has to be an issue. Indeed, itās not a place suited to immobility. Similarly, if there is no spare table at ground floor level and one has a larger dog - aka a greyhound weighing in at 30kg - the stairs are likely to be a problem, especially when descending.
Regarding service, food and atmosphere, I have always found each aspect satisfactory and the staff to be pleasant and accommodating. When the ground floor is full, however, it can be uncomfortably noisy because, to risk being accused of misogynistic discrimination, the noise levels of groups of ladies with their somewhat higher register voices, tends to rapidly increase to crescendo as they start to speak over each other. I have used the upstairs salon just the once and I donāt recall the noise level in that room being as much an issue as at ground floor level.
The only other comments I will add is on more than one occasion I have had to draw attention to improperly washed tableware and one needs to specifically requests sugar for oneās tea or coffee as no sugar is proved at table as routine. Also, if a menu item has side salad one is asked if one wants that, the reason stated being to reduce food waste as some diners will leave it uneaten. A laudable policy perhaps, although that possibly slightly enhances the profitability? Perhaps in that case, side salad could be offered as an optional extra at a modest additional charge?
All in all, satisfactory, but best if one can take...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been a regular at the Coffee Lounge since it first opened, and itās always been a cozy, welcoming spot with polite and helpful staff. The atmosphere is generally warm and inviting, especially thanks to the young gentleman whoās always thereāheās consistently welcoming and ensures weāre seated promptly, whether the place is busy or not.
Most visits have been smooth and pleasant, and the staff have always served us well. However, on my most recent visit, the experience fell short of what Iāve come to expect. The service from the three ladies working that day felt rushed and inattentive. Our order was taken in a hurry, and when we asked for extra tea bags, we were informed it would be an extra pound per cup, which seemed excessive, that being said, the food was tasty and presented well
My tea was handed to me without a cup, and I had to ask for it. We didnāt receive any sugar, and when I asked, the response was dismissiveāāyouāll have to waitāāand then she served another customer. By the time I got the sugar myself, my tea had gone cold. It felt like we were being rushed out, even though we had ordered extra drinks while catching up. We had to ask for sugar again, which was frustrating.
This experience was disappointing, especially compared to the usual high standards. I want to stress that the regular staff, especially the young gentleman, have always been lovely. Hopefully, this was just an off day for the other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited The Coffee Lounge earlier today. Upon our arrival, we placed our order at the till which we usually do when we visit. I noticed a Victoria sponge cake that was half price & asked to have it with my cappuccino. When the waitress brought our order to the table, I immediately smelt that the cake was off. It was giving a pungent smell which was similar to fresh cream going off. I tried a tiny piece of cake & I was correct, the cake had in fact gone off. I informed the waitress. She was quite embarrassed. I changed my order to a scone. When I went downstairs to pay the bill, I informed the gentleman behind the counter that the cake was off. He shook his head & said it was fine. I couldnāt believe what he was saying. It was very warm & the cake had 100% gone off. It had an extremely foul smell & taste. I couldnāt believe there was a slice still on display. To make the matter even worse, the cake slice was still on our bill! I will be reporting this business to Environmental Health. You have reduced a price of cake which is clearly not fit for consumption. You have denied the fact that it is & are still trying to sell it to the public! This is...
