Really nice pub would return if i lived in the area.
Visited for a beer and some food with wife and infant daughter, large carpark, is located at the top of the hill, staff and the locals were very welcoming. Nice selection of ales lagers and spirits. Restaurant section looked to be closed, but the lounge was bright and modern finish. Pub menu was served as per the website but they had a nice choice of specials. Had the special starter peri peri chicken samosa with pickled molis, perfect balance of curried samosa, sharp pickled mooli and spicey peri, came with an interesting almost experimental bread and charcoal garlic butter, mmm yummy main was a wholesome hearty gaint yorkshire brimmed with onion gravey and sausages dressed with a herby oil and fries on the side, was perfectly portioned for a big fella like me, may be too much for some, but a brilliant meal. Finished off with a white chocolate raspberry blondie, with a tart raspberry coolis and custard. Wife had the burger was thick and tasty, nicely seasoned. Daughter had a big portion of fish fingers and chips. Table services was efficient and friendly. Locals were nice to talk to aswell.
We all left happy and full,...
Read moreWe stopped at The Shepherds Arms after passing through Peak District, where we were welcome to park our campervan in the CCTV monitored car park over night. The pub itself is situated on a quiet road on top of a hill, near a beautiful view point of Huddersfield. The 200 year old pub has been recently refurbished and has a quirky modern vibe, it's extremely cosy! We enjoyed some fresh beers on tap (which were great value at just £3.40 a pint of Coors) and treated ourselves from the extensive exciting menu to a Sirloin Steak, see for yourself, it tasted even better than it looks! We were checked in on by the chef after receiving our meal, who was very lovely and we weren't supposed to discover he had worked with Gordon Ramsey trained chefs. Rachael is the landlady of the pub since 2019 and is super friendly and happy to accommodate you. We visited during outdoor only covid restrictions but cannot wait to return when we can enjoy the inside too! 100% recommend drinking and dining here and if you're campervanning like us, give her a call and she'll be more than happy to allocate you a safe and quiet overnight...
Read moreIf you like your pubs like they use to be, no pool table, no noisy flashing machines just a radio playing quietly over the pub speakers, then you have just struck gold. You will find a great selection of beers, London Pride, Smiths to mention a few. I have been going to this pub for forty plus years and can not remember the decor changing it's style brass ornaments, wooden table and chairs I think you get the picture. The only new addition is a small restaurant building attached to the pub, apart from that it is stuck in a wonderful time warp. Kids are welcome, and as far as I can remember The Shepherd Arms is open seven days a week. It as a decent size car park and you will find this gorgeous pub on top of one hell of a hill, Cowcliff Hill, the views from the top are spectacular, you can see virtually all of Huddersfield. There is a large park next to the pub so the kids can let of some steam. All in all this place is...
