Really upset and disappointment, the manager of the restaurant (didn’t catch her name) was VERY rude to me. I arrived to collect my order, to be told I would have to wait an extra 15 minutes as my food was not ready, this was not an issue, however while I was waiting I was met by the manager saying the reason I was waiting is because she didn’t think I was coming even though I did not say anything about this. She kept giving me the dirtiest looks and the worst tone of voice saying how she gave me discount as every new customer gets discount and I’m lucky she did it for me because that’s only for customers who order online and not over the phone, making me feel super uncomfortable especially when I didn’t when mention the discount once I arrived. I even tried to exchange a smile with her to lighten the mood and she didn’t smile back. I understand she might have been stressed but you can’t take this out on other people especially a paying customer spending over £50 on a takeout. When my order finally came the other lady (who was really nice) asked me what sides I ordered, I told her Mac and cheese, she then came back and said I can have 1 Mac and cheese and instead of the other Mac and cheese she would have to do me a corn on cob because it would take an extra 15 minutes to make the mac and cheese, I told her I didn’t want the corn on cob so just do me a mashed potato instead, the manager then butted in and said I wasn’t aloud the mashed potato or another Mac and cheese or the vegetables as they all would take too long, I said but I don’t want the corn on cob, to which she put her hand in my face and said “I’m not arguing with you” very aggressively. I said it’s fine I’ll just have the corn on cob because I hate confrontation, I had my two very small children with me, and I literally just wanted to get out of there. I was made to feel so uncomfortable and really out of place. This is the worst experience I have had at a food place. It’s a shame because the food is really nice, the manager really let her self down. I will not be returning. I’m so glad I found a quiet moment this Sunday afternoon to reminisce about the incredible food I enjoyed back in March at my sister Janet’s birthday celebration. As I sit here wondering what to eat, I can’t help but wish I could hop on a train straight to Sugarcane Grill & Bar and order their mouthwatering seafood platter all over again! As a Black person, I know we sometimes hesitate to give a big thumbs-up to food unless it’s our own or cooked by family, but I can honestly say this: Pat, Ice, (chef) and my sister-in-law (her name has slipped my mind!) are outstanding the chefs who truly deserve a 'Michelin star'. They’ve created a dining experience that feels like “home,” yet the flavors are so rich and nostalgic they bring back memories of my grandma’s cooking pot. To all chefs and food lovers when you come to Mirfield, just pop into Sugarcane Grill & Bar and critique the food. You won’t be disappointed! I would recommend Sugarcane Grill & Bar to anyone whether you’re coming from UK, London, Europe, the USA, Africa, or Asia you will not be disappointed. Oh my goodness where do I even start!!!! First of all I don’t know why or how we didn’t come sooner but boy was it worth the wait 🥰. The atmosphere was amazing, good music, good vibes. We love our food so naturally ordered a bit of everything and asked for it all to come together because we like to enjoy everything at once 🤣 the EFFICIENCY was truly appreciated because we all know with Caribbean dining everything can sometime take time but these guys were on it 🥲. So much variety on the menu and I honestly can’t believe the value for money (need to be charging more 😊 considering the quality of food and the freshness, just amazing). The rum punch definitely had a punch and was super refreshing, lovely cocktail (&the 2 for £15 deal was a bonus). The food was seriously something special 🙏🏾 - THE FLAVOURS!!! Just wow 🤩. The right balance of spices and heat, the temperature upon serving, it was all pretty perfect. I don’t think we’ve ever had such delicious Caribbean food locally. The portions were veryyyy generous and off course because our eyes are generally bigger than our bellies 🤣🤣 it was only right to take the rest home to feast on which also meant we had no room for dessert (but next time for sure).
