Velvet Lounge Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Kirklees

Had really good reports about the Velvet lounge so my expectations were high. We arrived about 7.30 on Wednesday evening and ordered. The poppadoms were ok but not 'just cooked', which I always think is a good sign. Onion bhaji were overdone and very dry and hard, the meat samosa was mainly potatoe and had the look and feel of something purchased from a freezer shop. The curry itself tasted ok but the chicken wasn't prime breast meat as it should be, lots of pieces were rubbery and I thought it might be chicken thigh. Additionally the service was polite but very slow, our main course arrived at the table just over an hour after we'd sat down initially & the restaurant wasn't busy, there were only a handful of other diners. I'm not sure what happened on this occasion, many of my curry loving friends had said how good it was here but tonight it was not good - hopefully a one off, maybe the chef was off work or something, won't be rushing...

Booked a table for 8 and needed to adjust the time of the table, the staff were more than accommodating for this request.

Lovely menu with a great price point, lots of choice and all items on the menu were available to order with no issues.

Food wise the curry I ordered was a chicken Karachi and came with a generous amount of meat, well cooked and flavours were perfectly dialled in, not too rich with a medium heat. Giant naan breads are killer and really good value for money.

Great atmosphere, it was evident that people come here for the great food and service, lots of families, friends and couples just having a nice time - a real testament...

3 of us came here to do a honest review on this place as we do with others and it did not disappoint. 1st time here and it won’t be the last. Chicken tikka & keema garlic chilli balti Chicken vindaloo Chicken tikka and keema masala extra Asian style. All 3 were beautiful. I can’t even remember which one I liked the most. Some of the best curries I’ve ever had. The chips were bang on too. If I was to be picky I’d say the garlic naan needed to be a little thinner/crisper but we can let that slide. The staff were really attentive, the service was quality & we had a good laugh with the lads. Top pint of cobra too. 9.5 out of...
